I've seen some really good questions about religion - (whichever one it is) but a lot of the responses are really nasty or sarcastic. Why??

People are often asking questions that they don't know the answers to and I thought that was the whole idea of this system. It doesn't mean they are stupid, gullible, brainwashed or anything else.

Religion is a touchy subject to alot of people. They may not even follow thier own faith correctly and they certainly dont want to hear how wrong thiers is.Much less have someone try to ram thier religion down thier throats.Religion should be something shared with others you care about, not crammed down the throats of complete strangers, that could care less what you or i believe.Much like politics, your just not going to have a conversation without it getting heated or ugly.

Some of us on here, are asking questions that we would like to know the answers to, but there are many of us who are just bored. That's where the nasty and sarcastic comments are really coming from.

Remember this is Yahoo, which means it's open to everyone. A lot of the people answering questions, are probably using this system like a game. 'How fast can I level up?!' The way Yahoo has the point system set up to promote a person to the next level is causing this. If the way to level up was by the numer of months a person had been using this, and not by answering questions questions to get points, there probably wouldn't be as much of a problem.

Because....religions are very sensitive topic to be discussed. It could make people get some nerve wrecking just by asking them a simple question about their religion.
Yes, some people really want to know about religions, but some are making fool by pretending they are blank by asking some empty uneducated questions just to insult, degrade, mock or disrespect other people's religions..... This is true.

They definitely abuse this opportunity from yahoo answer to aggravate other believers in the same forum. People cannot mock or ridicule other religions live on the street directly mouth to mouth. It could cause chaos after all. But since they know this is the worldwide network who gathers all people and believers from all around the world... they use this chance to use their mockery in so many different ways. Tend to be abusers.

When we have to discuss about religion, then we practically make some provocations towards others. Because for many people religions are very delicate and sore. People might think you are trying to make them to become like them etc....
Religions always make people feel better than the others in so many way, shape and form.... so when someone just simply asks about their religion, they automatically get annoyed and disturbed by it, while it was only a simple question. It's like when someone criticize or analyze the Americans, you do know that the Americans immediately fire back, don't they? Same in this case.

I think you get alot of sarcastic remarks because of two groups...

1. the proud... they believe only their way is right, and everyone else will burn.
2. the non believers... they can't grasp how people put so much faith in religions that teach hate ( for gays, unwed mothers, other religions, etc.) And ignor love, compassion, and acceptance.

I happen to be a non believer, as a rational human, I can't take "the leap of faith". I'm born...I die, and in between I'll do the best that I can to be a good person.

I agree with you, raki. I think part of the reason people get so touchy is an effect of some of the religion bashing that goes on within yahoo answers. It just makes people jumpy sometimes until they end up acting without thinking. And then there are some who just don't ever think before they act in the first place.... which leads to more bashing of their religion. It's a vicious cycle.

Sarcasm is the usual reaction to something one does not know enough about, but has a very strong opinion, against it. Perhaps they have been hurt somewhere, and it has to do with a religious person. Or there may be some family problems that had been borought about by religious intolerance. . Dificult to say. Unconditional Love should not be difficult to understand. I bless them, and wish them a Merry Christmas.

people get so mad about it because they are intollerant to other peoples ideas about religion. For many religious people it forces them to question thier own religion and faith. Which they don't like to do.

All and all it is a terible thing that causes a chasm between people of otherwise similar perspectives.

Because many people are taught that their religion is the only religion that is "real". That all the other religions are fake or false. And many people are taught that if their religion is not followed that they will go to hell. Hell tends to make people nervous and get upset. So when other religions or beliefs are questioned...it makes them have to re-think things...then hell comes to mind..and that scares them and they get upset.

People get so bad tempered when someone asks about religion because people may think you will lead them to a diffrent religion, therefore, tempering with their minds and soul as they may say it.
