I think that religion can be very hypocritical and demanding on people, everyone makes mistakes but some people are made to feel terrible for it.

However a belief or faith in something higher than yourself can be very comforting if not taken to extremes. The idea that it has to exist within the confines of religion is rubbish though.

Religion is a delusion. Why ignore the subject? It annoys me that when people say something out of 'religious belief' they get the softly softly respect thing. A religious person is a bigot as they have nothing but faith on which to base their ideas and dismiss factual science at every opportunity for a delusional belief in something that they cannot prove.
When a Christian next corners you one day, ask him if he thinks Muslims or Buddhists have the right answer. Once he has stopped ranting about Jesus and the Bible, remind him that he was born a Christian by accident of birth, and had he been born in India or Iran, he would be ranting about heathen Christians. They are all bigots. The truth is not 'the Lord' - it lies in natural selection. See my reference for a book which tells it as it is.

One's belief in a higher power (e.g. God) is a spiritual matter.

The requirement to practice religion is a man-made phenomenon. God and religion are two different things.

Religion can not be defined for the people like you...
Because religion is something which can be practised. And you are not religious at all, neither you want to be....
So what is the need for you to ask such a question and giving the quotes??

I think it is pretty important to spell it correctly, certainly! but I think it has had its day. I often look around and am disappointed that people can't find fulfilling group solidarity without resorting to religion, but maybe that's the next great challenge?
