Two big things the Zimmerman note that proposed that Mexico should attack the USA. Unrestricted submarine warfare which the Germans resumed in 1917 and pushed us into that war.

Two things. The German navy was interfering with our naval commerce. And, the Germans were also inciting Mexico to invade us. Naturally, Germany became a threat to our national interests, forcing us to join the Allied effort against them.
