I'll answer your question with a question. Why do some people squander their gifts, while others who have few gifts make the most of them?
I think that the answer ties into the issue of free will. God gives us something and them it is our responsibility to use it in a godly way. Billy Grahm said that at the beginning of his ministry he felt like God had called other Christian leaders to preach an evangelistic message. He felt that he was the 5th or 6th person down the list, but he was the one who responded to God's call. If you think about it, his whole ministry (one of the biggest in the world) is based on the Gospel message. He has been preaching on the same subject for 60 years! Even though he has a simple gift, he has been faithful in it.

In the Quran Allah has told us that He has given some people a lot and others a little and all will be judged accordingly. He says do not envy those with more because we all have the blessings in our lives. Hadiths (the ways of prophet muhammad) tell us that we should look to those have less than we do and count our blessings.
Actually the ones with a lot may find it more difficult to follow what Allah has said because material goods cloud their views. While the ones who do not have a lot may see it clearer.

God has never discriminated.
Awareness, Consciousness, faith , Gratitude are the basis of success.
Is the gift of God an expensive car, or good salary, and a luxurious house?
Or is it the feeling of fulfillment and happiness?
Have any of those gifts you talk of made them happy for the rest of their lives.
Or is the void and emptiness there despite all the worldly possessions?
If you think material gifts will give you happiness, please think again.

i feel that we go through everything for a reason. i have been through so many bad things but i feel like they are for a greater good so i can help someone else. not everything makes sense when it happens but it becomes clearer to me as life progresses. i grow with in myself every time i go through a trying time and since i've gotten older when i go through hard times it brings me closer to God. if everything were peachy what would we need God for. so instead of saying woe is me poor me i look at everything that i DO have. and remember that i have everything i NEED not necessarily everything i WANT

There is no reason, there is no god. We are all genetic experiments of mother nature and no 2 people are alike. We all react to the world differently.

My thought is that the gifts of which you speak are entirely genetic and depend on your ancestors. If you're speaking of material possesssions then those come to us through education and work and some occasional luck.

Many are blessed by the Lord.
Look at all the people He blessed in the Old Testament! Because they loved Him.
Deuteronomy 30:16
For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
-Psalm 128:1
[ A song of ascents. ] Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.
