1080p HDTV will give you the best picture quality. But just make sure you have some or most of the following:

Progressive scan DVD player or HD-DVD or BluRay DVD player.
HDMI output from the above DVD players.
Do not use coax cable from DirecTV or DishNetwork Satellite services. Coax cable doesn't have the picture or sound qualtiy for a 1080p HDTV.

For gaming consoles, the Xbox 360 has a HDMI cable that you can buy.

There's more info out there, you just gotta do some digging.

Good Luck!!!

It depends on what you watch most. If you tend to watch more movies on DVD (or HD DVD/BluRay) the progressive scan (1080p) would provide a better picture. If you tend to watch more sporting events, especially fast action events like football, basketball, etc. the interlaced seems to be better suited to that type of programming.

However, at 30 frames a second (divided into 60 fields with interlaced video), the difference is negligible and not really noticed by the average viewer. It is really only obvious when you pause the image on the screen. If you have interlaced video and it stops in between two interlaced fields, the image will appear to to be jittery. If the video is progressive, you will see the complete, still frame. Personally, I tend to prefer the progressive scan.
