He is 13 months old and I feel he is sick a lot! I'm into homeopathy type remedies for things and I'm a germaphob, so I have no idea why he gets sick so often. For instance he has chronic ear infections.
Can I use garlic drops in his ears (or has anyone tried this?)
Can I give him extra vit c?

Can he take acidophilus?....etc.?
What do you do to help your kids to be overall more well?

I'd really like some answers I could use. My daughter, who is 11 was NEVER sick and NOT breastfed. My son is 13 months and WAS breastfed. No smokers here. All precautions are taken that any normal parent would take.

He does NOT go to daycare is usually not around other children very often except his older sister. I cannot let it "go" on, usually his ear infections last weeks, and get WORSE and worse. I'm looking for ways to STRENGTHEN his immune system.

Did you protect him from germs and things alot while he was younger? If so, that's why he's sick so often. He wasn't exposed to germs, and his immune system didn't develop properly. Now, because his immune system is so weak he is very susceptible to illnesses.

You asked if he can take acidophilus. There is a kid's version of this called Florstor. It is sold at the pharmacy though you do not need a perscription. My son was 18 months when his dr. recommended it, so I'm pretty sure your child is old enough, though check with a Dr. first. Get him some gummy bear vitamins and feed him a lot of fruits and veggies. If he has a pacifier, ween him from that because it can contribute to ear infections. Get him on a sippy instead of a bottle asap, and never put him to sleep with either as this will not only rot his teeth but also effect his ears. Are there any animals in the house? He could have an allergy to that. I have an allergy to smoke, it causes me to instantly have all the symptoms of an ear infection. The dr. said that many people react to allergens by having ear, skin, joint and stomach problems. Though more people just get the common nazal conjestion. I hope all of this helps, please consult a dr. before trying any of my ideas, I don't want to be responsible for making the poor thing sicker. Good luck with your child.

Yes you can give a toddler vitamin C to bowel tolerance, so your baby should be old enough. You can not overdose on Vitamin C it is just flushed out, but do watch for dehydration.

I have been giving my baby acidophilus since 3 months on the advice of my midwife and a NICU nurse.

You *can* put peroxide in his ears. For me I cut it 50/50 with warm water. I would dilute it further for a youngster. However, I can NOT stress enough how much it SUCKS. Some moms I know swear by nettie pots (I think that is what they are called) basically you use it to flush the sinuses out.

If you are still breastfeeding, or have any milk left there is nothing like breast milk to fight infection (both bacterial and viral). You can put it in the ears, eyes, and nose.

I would give garlic pills, I don't know about garlic oil. Or cut up raw garlic and get him to eat it. Normally people put it on toast under honey. You could use jam.

Do you get outside a lot? Though it is winter now. Vitamin D is important to the immune system. Try a sun lamp (expensive), cod liver oil (hard to find ones that are guaranteed mercury free) or there are other sources, I just can't think of any *lol*

Talk to a natropath, personally I find it more helpful the homeopathy.

My daughter was allergic to our pets (2 cats and a dog). This caused post nasal drip, enough to cause her to get ear infection. When we had to give away our pets she did not have any ear infections anymore. We later go another cat and they came back.
So I would look at allergies.
I would also consider the fact that getting water in the ears at bath time can cause them.
Or having slightly tilted ear canals can cause them.
In any case its a good idea at this point to consider getting tubes. Very easy procdure and works wonders.

children at that age are more prone to getting sick especially if around other children (daycare etc...). for ear infections his own urine in his ear, a few drops. Getting it from him is a little tricky. Also, when kids that age get sick since your really sup. to let them fight it on there own... to build their immune system, it takes longer till they are %100 better. Teas are also herbal teas like stars, orange peels etc...are good. Try not to fight germs too much (i know that is hard to do and may sound weird) the more antibacterial stuff you use and antiseptics the harder it is to fight germs they too become immune to the stuff.

Sometimes we have to be careful not to overdo things. Some people would ell you to be very careful what you do toand giv to your baby this is wise advice. Also, my first impression is that you probably do alot to kill germs. Every cemica a baby comes in contact with affects their life, even natural ones. A trip to the doctor now and ten, even for a nautralizer like you- would do you good...just so you can see what is acually wrong.

SOME CHILDREN ARE JUST PRONE TO GETTING EAR INFECTIONS. I WAS AS A CHILD AND HAD SURGERY TO PUT TUBES IN MY EARS WHWN I WAS 4 AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. YOU SHOULD TALK TO A DOCTOR IF IT IS REOCCURING. HOMEOPATHIC IS GREAT BUT IF ITS NOT FIXING THERE COULD BE A DEEPER ISSUE THERE. YOU SHOULD GO AND SEE AN ENT WHICH SPECIALIZES IN EAR, NOSE AND THROAT. HOPE THIS HELPS.
