Sorry! but you cant compare the two ratings, one is voltage and one is power. However if the 12 volt bulb is also a 60 watt rating then they will be exactly the same. Some pedantic person will now reply that the 12 volt transformer will have losses and will therefore cost more to run, but any transformer losses will be negligible! Most little low voltage desk lamps have 20 watt halogen lamps, if yours does it will be 1/3 of the energy cost of a 60 watt lamp!!

Probably the 12v bulb.

But it depends on the wattage of the 12v bulb, and on the efficiency of the transformer (ie how much energy it wastes as heat).

If possible, you would be best off using a low-energy (flourescent) bulb in your mains lamp. This would use 8-15 watts.

Depends on how many watts the 12v bulb is. The transformer uses a negligible amount of power. 60 watts is 60 watts. Switch it on for 16 hours 40 minutes and you've used one unit.

All things considered , the 12volt bulb, which is probably a lower wattage , and will also produce less heat.
