SANDY, THIS INFO MAY BE HELPFUL:
What Is Gingivitis?
Gingivitis is the mildest form of periodontal (gum) disease. Gingivitis is often caused by inadequate oral hygiene, which leads to plaque buildup.
Other factors that may contribute to gingivitis include, diabetes, smoking, aging, genetic predisposition, systemic diseases and conditions, stress, inadequate nutrition, puberty, hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, substance abuse, HIV infection, and certain medication use.

The bacteria in dental plaque irritate the gums and cause infection. When your body launches an immune response against these invaders, the gums become inflamed. People with gingivitis usually experience little or no discomfort. Therefore, it is important to recognize the symptoms, such as gums that are red, swollen or bleed easily.

Gingivitis Infection

Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and good home oral care. However, if gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis

In early stages gingivitis is not very painful so you can have and not even know it. but some of the first warning signs are swollen, soft, red gums. also your gums will bleed even tought they are not sore and your gums may change color from a healthy pink to a dusty red

pay attention to brushing even when it bleeds, that part of the recovery period, it removes the bacteria's . also floss daily and try hot salt water to relieve some of the inflammation, its a good idea to see the dentist aswell as they will probably give u a good clean to remove any tartar, and if the gingivitis is really bad they can give u antibotics if necessary
good luck i hope this helps

Please see a dentist. If left untreated, gingivitis can lead to periodontitis which infects the bone and will eventually cause tooth loss. But until then brush and floss gently. And rinse with a saline (salt) mouth wash
