It seems like he was sad
because the flu doesn't make you cry
someone may have died
why don't you ask him if he is ok
because he may need a friend

Maybe he felt bad. Maybe something upset him. Maybe he's just a crybaby. Honestly, there's no way for people on the internet to answer this question. Next time, just ask the person then and there what's wrong. You might end up being the friend they need.
