fear is a complex word. There is fear of the Lord (as if you have just watched a scary movie) but there is also fear that comes with deep and great respect. This respect that is so great that you are fearful to enter into his presence because you know that you will be found unworthy. yet you are amazed to find that God still accepts you. fear of the Lord

Unfortunately, the King James translation of the Bible was deliberately written in what was then old fashioned language. It's full of mistakes. The Greek word translated as "fear" doesn't have a direct English equivalent. The nearest we've got is "respect", but it's a bit more personal than that.

It's a way for the masses to gain control. Human nature is to fear what we don't understand. So they threaten . You have to go past that. To me fear of losing someone I love is far greater then the wrath of someone or something I can't and probably never will see.

You are to fear -offending- the Lord. Thus, you give God even the ability to judge you. This makes you a much greater apologetic (evangelizer). Are you saved?
With Faith I hope that I will go to Heaven. With fear I serve the Lord.

When the bible says fearing the Lord, it means a very healthy reverence and respect for Him. I like to think of it as if your father were an extremely charismatic and powerful ruler or king. To peak in at him in the middle of his work, doing some leadership type things...talking to heads of state or pronouncing judgement. I would have such a respect and awe of him and would think within myself, What makes a man like that...wow, He's so smart...Look at how he decided that.
He sees me peaking in and calls me over...I am startled and feel all eyes on me and walk to where he is...still in awe...He then smiles and pulls me up on his lap. Give me a hug and tells me all that he is doing.
That's the kind of thing I think we see in our christian walk. He is the God of the universe but He is also our heavenly Father, Abba (Pa Pa).

to fear the lord does not mean to be frightened of him ,it means to have respect to not do anything that you know will hurt him. wise people fear the lord ,it also means to be amazed at what he has done, god tells us to fear him and not man because man can only kill the body but god can kill the soul, in other words if we dont belong to god he can refuse us on the day of judgement ,which we all know is going to come .i like your question do you know he died and rose again so that you could have the chance of life with him,he loves you and wants you to have that fellowship with him

Teaching people to "Fear the Lord" could be a psychological trick used by people in power to control the masses.

I think that it says Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
From what I have seen people are afraid of God before they have a revelation of his love for us. Then we begin to love Him because He loves us and so on. Anyway it is like a first step.

Nothing wrong with a little fear of the Lord!
But we should follow and obey him out of Love though!
Peace!
