Any cold pressed oil is actually very good for skin--the Greeks and Romans both used to slather it on their bodies and then scrape is off with what would be our equivalent of razors! But yes, olive oil is fine for skin; it actually sinks past the epi right down to the dermis, so if breakouts actually happen, they certainly aren't the doing of olive oil.
Also, make sure she is using 'First Press, Extra Virgin', and make sure it's very green. The greener it is, the better quality and effect it will have.
And you should get her something for calling her bonkers, like a book on all-natural facial care (you think olive oil is a bit off, wait until she starts gopping yogurt and milk of magnesia on her face!).

Heck yeah! The Greeks of yesteryear used to bathe in the stuff to keep their skin soft and healthy. Be sure and tell her that the more "virgin" the olive oil, the better it is for your skin. Some people might say "NO. You never want to put oil on your face. This is only for non natural oils and petroleum jellies, etc. Olive oil is a perfectly naturally occuring substance, so go ahead and rub it in. Not only will she be reaping the benefits of soft skin, but you will too ;)

You can use oil products on your face, i use bio oil twice a week and mix it with normal moisturiser, its a brilliant moisturiser and you can mix oils with your everyday moisturiser, if it use it to much it amy cause spots, but this time of year your skin needs extra moisture because the weather dries it out. So no she's not bonkers

Is she prone to spots at all? If not then she will probably be ok using it, after all a lot of people use different types of oil for different things. Olive oil, since it is pure....will leave her skin feeling soft.
It is also used for other things such as putting on the skin to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy.
Helps prevent dry skin.
Helps mask scars (if used often enough)

Olive oil is far too heavy for facial use but is very effective on the hair and body. If she wants to use an oil on her face she should try a lighter blend specifically for her skin type- a good blend for sensitive skins is a drop each of chamomile and rose mixed with a lighter carrier oil such as sweet almond.

Very good for mine. Especially in the winter.
Been using it for years.
Let her be and buy her a nice gift to make up for calling her "bonkers".

she is perfectly sane, the romans used to bathe in olive oil and its renowned for its softening and hydrating qualities, there are a few treatments already available in salons, where the body is coated in pure oliveoil and a deep tissue massage is performed.
ps. make sure its not just any old olive oil, it must be pure and of superior quality

I would only use olive oil as a moisturizer in a pinch. However, using olive oil as an eye makeup remover works very well.

Olive oil will remove makeup great but will make you break out big time. The lotions and products you get for your face with olive oil in it is olive oil extract or essence not the actual oil itself. If she has oily skin she better watch out.
