The batter/dough used for these cookies, are designed to be used in the pizzelle iron. A waffle iron is too deep for the batter, and a fry pan would do nothing except make the batter spred and it would look totally unattractive. Stick with the batter with the machine. There is another iron, a Swedish one, that might work, but again, the design is shallower than the pizzelle iron, so you have to take that into account. There are batter recipes out there so you can use the waffle maker--chocolate is a good one, funnel cakes, or deep fried 'rosettes', etc., but they are different again. Hope this helps a bit.

u should use the pizzel ironto make them. if you use a frying pan the dough will spead to far and burn on the bottom, and waffel iron are ment for a different kind of batter, a pizzel iron heats up on both sides qickly so the cookie will not burn

Since it's new, make sure it's seasoned well. Coat the inside with a thin layer of cooking oil and put it in the oven at 400 F for an hour. The oil carbonizes and creates a good non-stick surface. My Grandma said the best way was to coat it with lard and throw it in a bon-fire but these are modern times. Now you have the perfect pan for oven baked corn-bread. On the stove top,a cast iron is the only way(in my opinion) to cook a steak "Pittsburgh Style". With a little oil, get it smoking hot. Literally. Then sear your salt and peppered steak to perfection. I'm hungry now.

Frying pan wouldn't work. . . I feel like maybe a waffle iron, but it might be too thick. You'd just end up with. . . .waffles.

No, because the iron heat the top and bottom of the dough. If you use a waffle iron, the plates are too deep.
