My brother is 29 and wants to join the armed forces...he says he is willing to join any branch. He was a hockey player in college and has had several surgeries on his shoulder and knee. He has been denied in the past to enter the Marines due to his past injuries, but I don't know how selective the other branches are compared to the Marines.

If the marines won't take him, the other branches will not likely to either, because the entrance physical is just a basic physical for enterance to any branch of the ARMED FORCES.

Go to Army or Air Force web sites for details and and ask questions. I was disabled a long while back and the VA sent me to college. When I graduated, my disability was waivered and received a commission. I can't say that will be true for your brother, but it doesn't hurt to ask or get a medical evaluation. I also have to be honest with you and say that I eventually became more disabled after having left active duty and volunteering for AD when another war came along [I was a bit aged by that time] (the one that actually started circa 635 A.D., but most of us don't seem to know our own brief history let alone world history (including sub-divisions of same -- too bad they didn't bumper stickers back then to put on a camel's rump). I have a son who has had knee surgery, but is an AD officer and spends plenty of time in places where they use camels.

If he can get a physical waiver by a military approved doctor, he shouldn't have any problems.
