I've noticed the same gas stations will click the nozzle off or slow it down to where it only pumps a trickle till you hit your prepay amount. I.E. you pre-pay $10 on thursday and pump. pump slows down at $9.75 till it hits $10. Same pump friday slows down at $9.65. What factors does the machine account for to slow or stop the gas?

Probably the price per gallon has changed. It is most likely based on volume remaining to be pumped to determine when to slow down.
