I believe that the love we have for family and friends continues in heaven. Many who have had near death experiences report seeing loved ones, recognizing them on the other side. I believe that the love feel for them is even enhanced by the love we will feel in God's presence. God is love, and to be there with Him is to be encompassed and consumed by love. That truly would be heaven, forever being in the love of God and others we love.
Sad to read about your friend. Personally, I have lost my parents, a wife, a brother, and several friends. Death is as much a part of life as breathing. We will all experience it sometime with those who are part of our lives, and those who love us will do the same when our turn comes. People can either view this as "The End", or a new beginning... a transition into something new.
I have traveled many paths on the road of "spiritual enlightment" throughout my life. The only one that has proven to be true is Christianity as a way of life, not as a religion. That is Christianity in it purest form. God so loved us that He sent His son, to die for us, in our place. Put all the doctrines, dogmas, personal beliefs and perspectives aside. See this as the ultimate expression of love... to give your life for someone else.
Love is the most important thing we experience in this life. Everyone realizes innately that this is true. It is the focus of mankind's greatest books, songs, movies and beliefs. The 10 commandments can be summarized and contained within the statement "love God and one another". It is the purpose of life and living, here and forever after.
Remember to pray for those who are giving their lives today, and for their loved ones and families. May God bless each and every one of them.

I had this discussion with my wife a couple days ago. I personally feel that we will all know each other. However, I also feel that best part about being in heaven is not the reunion with old family and friends, but the physical reunion with God. I mean if you had the choice to hang out with Jesus and worship him or Hang out with your Grandmother who you may have been very close to but died when you were 15. Well i hope you would pick Jesus, and if not. Maybe Heaven isnt the place for you. Just like someone else said Heaven is such a cool place that we really won't have time to dwell in the past. Everyday will be the present and everyday will be better than the last. We as a human population suck because we are all in our own little clicks, which lead to arguments and jealousy etc.. And frankly I've done more negative than positive so i rather not think to much of my life on earth.
But of course this is just my opinon. And I personally only believe in the Heaven discussed in the Holy Bible and the only way to get their is by accepting Jesus Christ as God in flesh, believeing he died for your sins and rose on the 3rd. Any other heavens or gods i can't really comment on.
Good question!

There are a number of theories and beliefs of what may happen after death.
Biblically: When people die, they're dead. No memories, no
feelings, no concept of time. There is no hellfire for
eternal punishment. You paid for your sins on death.
In Revelations, those that have died can hope for the
resurrection, which is to be brought back to life on
Earth, with a new body and a second chance to follow
God's ways and help Earth become a paradaise. This
will last 1000 years, without the influence of Satan.
After the 1000 years, Satan will be let loose to try to
turn people his way. Many will fall in the best of
conditions. God will then destroy those that follow
Satan and Satan himself. The rest will live for eternity
in paradaise on Earth. Only a select few will go to
heaven to rule with the Christ.
Reincarnation: This theory states that we come to Earth (or
perhaps some other world) to experience a life,
then we die and go back to some heavenly place
where we take a break before embarking on
another life. We do this over and over again until
we become like God. At this time, we'll have no
need to ever come back again. During our return
trips, we may decide to come alone, or decide
to be born with those we come to love in a past
life. We may decide what family we would like to
live with, etc.
Atheism: The atheist beliefs in no God or afterlife. They're for the
here and now. When we die, that's the end. Nothing
after that.
Personally, I believe in something after death. If this was all there is then what's the point in living? In fact, what's the point of all the needless suffering on this planet? Would it not best be better to just blow up the Earth...all suffering would end. Would the
universe miss this puny speck of a planet? Must be something more to all this.

If you have believe and trusted that the Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins then you will go into heaven and when the Lord gives you a new body you will stand at the judgment seat of Christ and give an account of the thing you have done and if your works don't burn up you will receive a reward and that how you will be known. Have you done what God has told you to do. 2 Corinthians 5: 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 1 Corinthians 13: 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. If you go to hell, you will stay there until hell is delivered up and judged and cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20: 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. Revelation 20: 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. Revelation 20: 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Yes, I believe we go on to another, eternal life where we are reunited with loved ones who have died before us. Call it heaven or whatever you want. I'm not spewing religious crappola I truly believe this. Yes we do remember the bonds and I also believe that the love we make here is the love we take with us. Sylvia Brown, a world renowned psychic says we are born alone but never die alone. Someone familiar to us comes to take us and reunite us. Personally, although I love my life, I must admit I'm looking forward to seeing the people who I miss dearly.

Yes! We will take our memories with us...though I feel in some way they won't "matter" as much as what we will be doing in the Celestial Kingdom. Only in the Celestial Kingdom can a person still have the bond of the family unit, have the chance for progression and still be married to their spouse. In the other Kingdoms - Terrestrial and Telestial - there is no family unit, no chance for progression, and no eternal marriage...
I am grateful that our Heavenly Father has given us the chance to be with our families forever...but only if we live worthy of the sacred covenants we make in the temple.

I like my religions way of looking at it. We don't go 'above' or 'below' but rather 'within'. Everything in nature has a single spiritual force that bonds everything together. Every tree, plant, animal, rock, bird, spider, etc, everything is connected to this spiritual force. When something dies or is destroyed, that object or creature's spirit or soul rejoins with that singular spiritual force behind nature until it is called upon again. In this way we are able to become one with nature when we die, we'll be part of that collective spiritual force, gathered together with the spirits and souls of those that went before us. This is my take on the Druidry aspect of the Summerland. Everyone's view on what the afterlife is like is different. But I do believe we will always have a bond to others, one that lasts in life and in death.

That story about going to Heaven or Hell after we die is not consistent.
Things are more complex.
There are other better explanations.
Of course, people that are near us have a similar vibrational state and this tends to maintain the group.
