He must have gotten into something outside because his tail is hard and sticky. I tried water on a washcloth but it barely did anything. What can I use to get it off his tail?

Maybe try warm, soapy water on the washcloth. The warm water might soften up whatever is stuck on your cat's tail.

If your cat isn't especially high strung, you might be able to get him to hold still long enough to soak his tail in a basin of warm water.

Whatever you choose to put on your cat to get it out, be sure that it is non-toxic. I'm sure you know that cats clean themselves with their tongue, so whatever you put on their fur, they will likely ingest it when they groom themselves.

Good luck!!

Try rubbing alcohol on it, if that doesn't work I would take it to the Vet.
