I think Marie is a take of Mary... a tribute to the virgin Mary...
both names are short and simple, they can tie a first and last name together easily.
but I agree, they can be boring.... then again, there are so many "creative" names out there that simple older names are a nice change.

My youngest daughter's name is Hallie Marie. It's funny because there are a lot of Hallie and Haley Maries out there.. I think these names just fit well with most other names and sound cute.

I have two daughters, Destiny Marie and Hailey Nicole, both names Marie and Nicole go with EVERYTHING. I can't think of a name that them middle names sound bad with. They just sound good with most names.

One reason they are so popular, is because they are so popular. For example, I am naming my daughter Logan Marie because my mothers AND my grandmothers middle name is Marie as well. So I wouldnt have thought of it, but I really wanted to honor them, and it sounds very pretty with most names.
Just my two cents!

They are names that just seem to flow with other names, balancing out the harsh strong sounding first names with the softer sounding middle names.
My daughter's middle name is Mariah!

That's my middle name, but my first name is Lisa :s. Yes my parents were cruel. But, I think a lot of people choose it for the sound, it does go will with most different names.

I think it is because "Marie" is a 'good Christian name' and people want to give their kids a 'good Christian name' but they don't like "Marie" enough to use it as the first name.

WELL MARIE AND ANN JUST FLOW NICELY W/ANY NAME. MY DAUGHTERS NAME HAYLEY MARIE, WE USED MARIE BECAUSE IT IS HER GGMAS FIRST NAME. IF MY SON WAS A GIRL HIS NAME WOULD HAVE BEEN AVERY ANN, ANN AFTER BOTH GMAS MIDDLE NAME. I THINK IT IS NICE TO USE FAMILY NAMES. I DO AGREE THEY ARE VERY COMMON.
