I have had a constant pain on the lower left side of my abdomen. The pain varies from hardly noticeable to excruciating pain. What could this be?

This has been going on for about 5 months. It is a sharp pain like a knife in only one area of the left abdomen. I went to the ER for the pain a few months ago and they diagnosed it as a UTI, which I know was a misdiagnoses. I also had a colonscopy last month due to some abnormal stools but nothing was found.

How do you "know" the UTI diagnosis is wrong? The ER doesn't diagnose UTI unless they have proof.

Wow! That's a broad area! I had the same pain for a couple of years and decided to have it checked out. First thing that the doctor did was an ultrasound, then a full body CT...well, then the doctor sent me to an OBGYN...I had a cyst on my uterus. The OBGYN put me on birth control to help reduce the size and pain. That didn't work. They did multiple tests and eventually found out that I had cervical cancer. So, what was the answer...a hysterectomy. I did a full laproscopic hysterectomy leaving my overies because I'm only 31. I was scared at first, but after having the surgery..(easy surgery by the way) I have no more pain and feel better than I ever have. The pain on the side was caused by all the cysts that kept occuring and rupturing...all the scar tissue build up didn't make things any better either. If I were you, I would have it checked out.

Could be a kidney stone stuck in your ureter (the tube between the kidney and the bladder) drink a lot of water (1-2 liters) to try and flush it from your system. Could also be an intestinal blockage, possibly constipation. Does it hurt when you push it?

it is possible it is your appendix but your appendix is on the right side but could radiate to the left. If you have a fever, chills, feel like throwing up, sweating etc...

Sounds like a cramp--place a magnet on it (off the fridge)
Could be pms...fill an empty pepsi bottle with hot water and put on it.l
If u get where u cant keep foods down, then it is an appendix rupture which needs hospital attention immediately.
U may have pulled a muscle or it could be just air(gas)
Take a pepcid ac .

lower left side of abdomen would probably have something to do with your sigmoid colon. Do you have any problems with defecation? or abnormal stools? Pancreas would be right upper, appendix would be left upper and kidneys would be back pain.

Most of the answers above could be a possibility, but I don't think it's appendicitis- I'm pretty sure that occurs on the right side.

OMG!!! I've had this and I have NO idea what it is. I'll keep looking on here to see if anyone has a good answer! One my guesses was gas. Good luck and God Bless.
