"let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law, and if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for woman to speak in the church."
1 Corinthians 14:34-35 (BIBLE)
If you can be flexible with THIS verse, why not ALL of them?

Some of you are interpreting this as women not PREACHING in church. According to this, as soon as a woman enters the church, she should keep her mouth shut, PERIOD.

Suzanne, that is YOUR interpretation. You seem to want to have your cake and eat it too. Does that mean that in Paul's letter to the Romans, only the ROMANS couldn't practice homosexuality?

I'm simply astounded at the number of women who are agreeing with this passage. Dear Goddess, have we strayed so far from our Mother that we can no longer remember She is the giver of all life?

Good question - I had to look into this a bit further. I know that some of Paul's instructions are directed at specific cultures and therefore don't make sense or apply to ours.
The Message Bible puts it this way
Wives must not disrupt worship, talking when they should be listening, asking questions that could more appropriately be asked of their husbands at home...Wives have no license to use the time of worship for unwarranted speaking....
I don't believe Paul was against women speaking in church in an appropriate manner. He mentions women church leaders by name in other letters. It is possible that this specific Corinthian church had a problem of chatty women and he was addressing it. He addresses many specific problems in his letters.
Homosexuality on the other hand is mentioned in both the OT and the NT and is always listed as wrong.

Well its all about how you interpret things. I beleive no matter what sex you are to go out and spread the word of God. Thats what Jesus said now go tell others. So just because you are a woman you are not allowed to minister to others I dont believe that. I believe many women help win souls into the kingdom of heaven and there is nothing wrong with that. That verse can be really taken out of context. I do believe you should discuss things when you are at home with your husband and not disturb others during the service. What does any of that have to do with homosexual marriage there is all kinds of verses about homosexual acts in the bible and they didnt end good. Well just pray about it and God will reveal it to you. God Bless!

Paul was writing to ONE specific church, in Corinth. As you've quoted, he stated, "let YOUR women keep silence ..." He didn't write "let all women in all churches keep silence." A careful reading of the other Epistles shows Paul NEVER told this to ANY other church.
You see, in the Corinthian churches, men and women were separated into different areas. The men were closer to where the speaker stood; the women were at the very back of the church. Throughout the service, women would call to their husbands, "what did he say?" It was very disruptive. Instead of telling the Corinthians to change their tradition, Paul was attempting to work around it.
Gay marriage is unscriptural. Even Jesus said, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’?" (Matthew 19:4).
Peace.

If you are speaking of a woman pastor, I agree there should not be women pastoring a church. But there can be women leading women's bible studies- that is different. So when you say "speak in church" do you mean pastor? I dont really know of any women who stand up and speak during a sermon otherwise....

I dont agree with women preachers either. Women can teach bible studies, and teach childrens ministries but not preach.
