*buy two yards of flannel fabric in a solid color, and two yards of flannel fabric in a complementary pattern.
*pin them together all around so that they are flat and flush at the edges.
*take scissors and go around the edge of this new "blanket" and cut in about two inches (through both layers of fabric). your pins should keep the two pieces of fabric from shifting during cutting. i usually cut each of these "tassles" about an inch wide.
*go around the entire blanket and knot the tassle from the solid fabric to the pattern fabric. i double-knot these knots, and they will last through the washing machine

the entire thing takes about 1-2 hours, and you can keep the blanket on your lap to keep you warm while you do it. these are the best gifts at winter, because they are so thick and warm, and i personalize my fabric to each friend. i don't have any photos, sorry!

Find some pieces of wood - about fence post width - and cut them to about 12 and 6 inches or make 3 of different sizes (6, 10, 14 inch). Then sand them a little to make them smooth and paint them a bright Xmas colour or two. Then attach ribbon around the wood, maybe add a bow or some other such item. In the end you have what look like gifts - but they last forever as decorations.

If you're already doing baked goods, why not present them in a basket made of bread dough? There are a bunch of bread dough recipes online and they're just made of flour, salt and water, then baked in the oven until golden brown.

I take an oven-safe bowl in the shape I want and then spray oil on the outside. Roll out strips of dough and weave them on the outside of the oiled bowl. After baking, you can spray with clear acrylic, but don't let unwrapped food touch it. It's really easy to do and even younger kids can help. You can also make nifty ornaments out of bread dough.

Give away flavored oil. Buy the decorative tall bottles and olive oil, garlic rosemary or any woody spice. Fill the bottom of one with garlic gloves and poor heated olive oil in the container and cork(let cool) Do the same thing with the other spices. They make pretty gifts and people enjoy them all year.

Chocolates!!! My ex used to make good chocolate and pour it into molds, and give those out. I wouldn't mind something like that. It's easy to make and better to eat.

I made calendars with friends and family's pictures on them with captions and I made a 150 page cookbook with all my favorite, friends and family's favorite recipes. Do it all yourself if you have a computer.
