I bought a Sony Bravia LCD TV a few weeks ago & although the picture is fine and everything works ok when I use the Analogue auto-tune option, I find that the Digital auto-tune option doesn't 'find' any pictures when it runs. I don't think there is anything wrong - I think it's just me not understanding analogue/digital TV very well!! I've called Telewest and they assure me that I AM receiving a digital TV signal from them. I've also contacted Sony and they have advised that I would need to have a conventional aerial on the house to be able to use the 'Digital setup' (which I don't have). So, to summarize, I am buying digital TV through cable & I have got a digital TV (with "an integrated digital tuner") but I have to select the Analogue setup option to be able to tune it in. Does this make sense to anyone? I must be a technophobe - can anyone explain this to me, please?

The digital tuner is designed to receive digital TV through your TV aerial and is not capable of processing the signal from cable as its in a different format.

The digital cable set top box decodes the digital signal from the cable and converts it to an analogue video signal which is fed back into your telly either via the SCART socket or reencoded into an analogue UHF signal and fed in by the aerial socket.

If your using the Aerial socket to connect your TV to your set top box, invest in a decent SCART cable for about 30 quid and use this instead of the aerial cable to connect to your TV. You'll see a massive improvement in picture quality and get Stereo sound too.

The on board digital tuner built into the telly only works for Freeview through your aerial.

Your Tv can receive analogue and digital tv (Freeview) from your aerial, but if you dont have a strong signal or are in an area where there is no Freeview signal transmitted, you will not get it! In addition you have cable which is similar but not the same thing, that is 'tuned' via your Telewest box. Check your postcode for Freeview.

relies upon plenty on the huge-unfold of your cables and your television, yet generally the RCA cables provide you a extra helpful, extra sturdy photograph, there is way less room for noise to get in because of the fact it would not have the super bandwidth that coaxial cable has. determine you have sturdy cables the two way, they do make a difference.
