Here is the order how I place the conventional braces on my patients:

First appointment: "the spacers." Also known as separators, they are small rubber bands that are placed between the back teeth for 5-7 days.

Second appointment: "the molar bands." The spacers are removed and and the metal bands are placed on the back teeth. And 1 week later...

Third appointment: "the brackets." Using special adhesive technique (bonding), a tiny orthodontic bracket is attached to each tooth. Then, a small wire is thread from one side of the molar band, through the brackets, and to the other side of the molar band. A small rubber band is used to hold the wire tightly to each tooth's bracket.

Notes: No shot required. You may feel some discomfort for a few days. Motrin and Advil will be helpful. Dental wax is often given to cushion the lips.

Alternatively, if you do not have a severe problem, you may may the option of invisalign.

You will have very little appointments during school hours.

Here's how that steps go:

Initial exam (15-30 minutes, usually during school) - The orthodontist will examine your mouth, teeth, jaw, etc to determine what needs to be done.

Records (about 30 minutes, during school) - X-rays, pictures and models of your teeth are taken to help determine your treatment plan. This can sometimes be done the same day as the initial exam, schedule permitting.

Separators or spacers (IF your orthodontist uses bands on the molars) - This can be done with the above procedures IF you are scheduled for the braces the next week (give or take a few days). If you are scheduled for your braces further out, they will put them in 5-10 days before your banding appointment. This can be a very quick, after-school appointment.

Banding - The actual placement of the braces will be scheduled for 1-2 hours and will need to be during school.

Adjustments - The largest majority of your appointments will be made after school. Longer appointments are usually only needed every 3-4 months.

Orthodontists do not schedule long appointments after school. They need to see as many of their patients as they can for short appointments after school (so the patients don't miss a lot of school), so they WILL NOT schedule anything requiring more than 15 minutes after school (usually).

Do you just want braces or do you really need them to sort the alignment of your teeth in a major way? It's not only inconvenient in terms of hours at the dentist, it hurts (having teeth removed, having the braces adjusted, the traintracks giving you mouth ulcers)
They will have a look to assess what needs doing, which is one appointment.
Then they take impressions of your teeth with that weird blue stuff, which will take one appointment.
They made need to extract teeth before they put the brace on (I had six removed in total which took three appointments).
If you need a removeable brace (which you very often do before the train tracks) then you might be wearing that for up to a year and it will need to be checked and readjusted on a regular basis.
Once they've done that for a while, they'll probably take another impression.
Train tracks themselves stay on for about a year and need adjusting monthly
When they come off you'll need to make an appointment with the hygienist to give your teeth a really good clean and scrape the cement off them.
And you might have to wear another removeable brace at night time once you're done with that.

My question to you is have you even seen an orthodontist yet?? They won't put on braces until they set up your treatment plan... and first that will include a 'records' visit, where they take impressions of your teeth and xrays. Then the dr. will make a treatment plan for your condition and anticipated results. Then he will meet with your parents to discuss this plan, and if agreed upon, then and only then will the appliances be put on. Most offices do have appointments after school, but keep in mind that they are limited. So, if you have to go during school hours, try to make your appointment times during classes that are a little easier... for example, gym.

The braces usually take about a hour to a hour and a half, depends how busy the ortho office. But if u make a appointment in the morning you are out of there fast, you can also make appts, after school.

Its usually like 2-3 visits before they put them on, not more than that. Then while they are on you go for monthly or bi-monthly checkups and adjustments that are very quick, you are in and out of the chair within a few minutes. You don't need to miss the whole day of school, you could go in late or leave early, or you could try to schedule them after school if they are available.

there are 3-4 appointments:

1. orientation
2. pictures and molds of your present teeth
3. spacers ( rubberbands wraped around your molar tooth to ancor your braces to )
4. about a week later they put your braces on, they usually only do that during the morning. you will also have very sore teeth after, I recommend not going to school that day.

Takes 3-4 weeks till they put it on.

I have braces, well now i have retainers. You go every 6 weeks for half a year or 2 years then you wear retainers for 6 months.

WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN FIRST IS THAT SPACERS MUST BE PLACED BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND MOLARS TO ALLOW SUFFICIENT SPACE TO INSERT THE BANDS.
THIS IS THE FIRST APPOINTMENT. AFTERWARD, AN APPOINTMENT IS MADE TO PUT THE BRACKETS. THIS MAY BE DONE TO 1 OR BOTH JAWS, THE WIRES MAY BE PLACED AT THIS TIME TO THE CEMENTED BRACKETS.
DISCUSS YOUR SCHOOL SCHEDULE AND THE ORTHO APPOINTMENTS SO THAT A GOOD COMPROMISE MAY BE REACHED. FOR EXAMPLE CONSIDER SATURDAY APPOINTMENTS.
