I think it is because some christians try to comingle law and grace. According to the jewish law, when there is a change in the priesthood, there is a change of the law. When Christ created a new covenant, and became our High Priest forever, the law changed...and the 2 commandments that were given under that law are the laws of love.
Love God
Love your neighbor as yourself.
The only sin attributed to man now is unbelief in the Son. And salvation is not just forgiveness..it is also life...and since you can't get life through no one but Jesus, that means unbelief in him means you remain dead.
Comingling old covenant and new covenant laws causes confusion, legalism, fights and so forth. Just missunderstanding in what the finality of the cross and the new covenant is all about.

Christianity doesn't follow the Jewish or Old Testament laws as strict as the Jewish People do. Jesus said he came to fulfill the law. Now if you accept Christ and try to live a life that will please him you don't have to worry about every single law. The law will be taken care of in Christ Jesus. Some times people do fight about the laws and how we should or should not follow them.

Because Christians are mixed up, they don't really get how much of the Old Testament no longer applies. They don't really understand why some parts would still apply but others do not, such as why Leviticus would say homosexuality is an abomination, but right after that it says to execute them. The moral laws in the Old Testament still apply, but the only thing that has changes is how we go about finding righteousness and atonement for our sins. Now we don't sacrifice animals or wash our hands for seven days in a row, we petition God for forgiveness through Christ. For righteousness, we wont find it in obeying the laws, but we will find it through the Holy Spirit which leads us to all good things, and with the Holy Spirit naturally we'll uphold God's laws.

Many Christians feel that the death and resurrection of Jesus wiped away ALL of the laws. Which is against even what Jesus "said". But, in my personal experience with some of Christianity's finest Extremists online and offline, those laws only apply to Everyone Else, but never apply to them. I guess they can't handle seeing that they really don't live by the rules either.
