Cleaned brushed no plaque along the gum line. Cavities taken care of etc is really important. Why would that be an obsession. If you lose your teeth and try and replace them with dentures outside of looking like real teeth they are still in fact a loose piece of plastic. Also unless you find a very skilled dentist probably do not fit well.

A clean healthy smile is very attractive.

it's better to be obsessed with ur teeth than not caring
i think we Brits should follow the Americans' example, maybe some Americans care too much about their teeth but the amount of Brits with disgusting teeth is too many to count
everybody likes to see people with at least clean teeth and braces can really improve some body's confidence if their teeth are messed up

Teeth are very important in aesthetics. People with out them tend to be less confident and are thought to be less attractive. Teeth also help in communication without them certain words or sounds can't be formed. Teeth are a part of a person's smile. Teeth help with the process of digestion. So it seems that Americans are obssesed with teeth because not only are they attractive but they are also functionally important.

I think you are making a making a major generalisation of American society based on Hollywood's obsession with having perfect teeth!! I don't think American peope are any more obsessed with having nice teeth then are British people! So stop generalising!!!

If you look at any American chat show with members of the public you will see that most have teeth missing / broken or decaying yellow. This is because they cannot afford to have basic treatment. We are following in Americas footsteps. My grandparents had NHS false teeth but they are too expensive for us pensioners now. As in America only the well off can afford such luxuries as dental treatment.

Apart from all of these answers, there is also the fact that dental treatment in the States is so expensive. For this reason, parents encourage their children to look after their teeth from a very early age and this is generally continued as they get older. So, apart from making good financial sense it looks so much better.

I never knew that taking care of your teeth so that you have a beautiful smile was obsessive....hmmm. I just thought that was normal human behavior. But, if you're talking about the porcelain caps lots of celebrities are getting lately I understand your question....just don't know the answer.

Why not have good teeth? Good breath, nice smile, able to chew your food.

SOrry but green teeth or Missing teeth in a smile is gross.

What obsession? America? Or, the very wealthy celebrities that can afford the dental implants etc.? Shoot! Where we live, you're lucky to see someone that has all their teeth!

Hi I live in NYC and I can tell you. We like to have all of our teeth when we are old (no dentures) so we brush and floss and regular dental visits to insure that. I like to have white teeth so I also use the whiting strips. How are your teeth in the UK?
