If fought today, the US would win a conventional war. The US military has a greater capability to strike the Chinese mainland than the Chinese military has to attack the US mainland. If the battle were waged in cyber-space, the answer may be different. I don't want to think of a nuclear exchange although both countries are rumored to have that capability.
Since both countries would lose much more than they could gain, I wouldn't loose sleep over this hypothetical. Wal-mart would not allow the US to attack its number 1 supplier and the Chinese are smart enough not to directly confront it's number one trading partner. In fact, with its trade surplus with the US, it would be better if the Chinese showed patience and just bought the US with their own money in a few decades.

USA and Iraq have won the war. The problem is the Iraqis people are probably equivalent to a third grade education due to the Saddam control factor over the years. The great thing is the Iraq people are maturing and getting educated but things like this take time. We have family in the military over there and they all say how much good our country has done and how appreciative the Iraqis are toward USA and the other country's.

It would depend on a number of factors including if it escalated to a nuclear conflict. If it did then the US would win but it would be very costly. If it stayed conventional the US would be very hard pressed to deal with the availability of Chinese forces. As the old saying the goes quantity has a quality all it's own. But we would have a slight advantage do to the fact our navy is considerably better and more numerous than theirs. And they would need to get here to take the US down.

USA would win. sure china has a much larger army and like that other guy stated, has all the commie countries to back them up but we the USA has more military experience, more resources, more nukes than china and the USA has the backing of pretty much every other industrialized nation to back them up.
but still if it was soley china vs usa, USA would win.

China's 1 billion people can't move enough troops across the Formosa strait in fifty years to take over 14 million people inTaiwan, let alone mount an invasion of North America. Their technology is forty years old. We'd smoke 'em in about two weeks if they ever got crazy enough to try anything.

That would depend largely on how and where it is fought. Personally I'd like to think that this will not be a thought process taken through to execution. Whatever the result, there would be a tremendous loss of life on both sides. I don't see how either could claim victory. The question is too vague to effectively discuss.

There would never be a US vs China war, but the US would theoretically win.
We have the superior Navy, that's all you need to win. Control the seas, you can control the air. Control the air and you can control the ground. That's it.
