Calling God a Higher Power, has started with Alcoholics Anonymous. The cause being that they acknowledge that there is Higher Power higher then they are , and not be denominational. Like Catholic or Protestant or any other religion. That God, the Higher Power is able to help them overcome the addiction to alcohol , which they could not accomplish on their own power. . Fear is not the reason, and they believe in the Higher Power and know that, that Power is real .For more info on AA google it Yahweh is the name of God, and may Yahweh bless you all for Christmas according to your needs.

I don't know... But I have one question. What is "His" name? According to the Old Testament, it is "Yahweh". According to Islam, it is "Allah". Every religion has a different name for "Him".
Also, for your information, "god" is not a name. It is a title, and a common noun.
People who say "higher power" probably say it because their concept of it doesn't fit into the concept of "God" that most have. Or maybe they say it because they believe the "higher power" is not masculine, as the word "god" implies. Or maybe they just think that the word "God" is overated. Maybe...

I am not religious but have started reading the bible so I can at least discuss the topic with some clarity and one of the things I realize is that the majority of us even the bible thumpers have never really read the bible. HIS name is Jehovah it is mention hundreds of times throughout the book.

I would call him by his name if I knew what is was. Does anybody know? God is not his real name that is just what people call him because they don't really know. Does he even need a name? Do we?

The Bible Lists his name and also warns against using it. Those whom have respect, faith and a profound belief in HIM do not fear that he exists those of us whom do not believe are the ones whom have to fear that he does. If I may be so bold as to extrapolate from the phraseology you used in your question you are one of those whom has to fear not the believers among us.

The pink monkey get's very angry when you call him by his actual name.
That is why he said I am that I am. In other words don't try to name me or I'll sodomize you with a flaming banana!
