First of all, thanks for the question.....
I am glad to see someone who is actually interested in finding a resolution to this issue....We can't find a solution based on emotions and that's what has happened with this issue....Too many emotions, and not any real solutions.....
I feel for the immigrants who are already here, working and NOT on welfare, with no felonies, should be allowed to become legal and start paying into SS, that being said, they cannot apply for welfare....Those immigrants who are on welfare or have any criminal record, should be deported or jailed, depending on the situation....
We cannot deport all illegals, because first of all, it would be close to impossible to find them all, image the cost of finding them alone? For those who are here with families, working and contributing to the economy, we should stop criminalizing them, legalize them, and make them honest people.....

I guess it depends on what you mean by "positive"? I don't think any solution is going to make everybody happy. I suppose there could be a mid-ground if people realized there would be loosers and they would abide by that without causing trouble. So far, ANYTHING except total amnesty for everyone is just not acceptable on the pro-illegal side and I'm not going to compromise until I see concrete efforts of having laws enforced and the border secured. We were lied to with the last amnesty and aren't trusting the government to keep their word until I see something happening besides empty promises and half-hearted attempts.
Lets just pretend for a second that we just said ok....1/2 of the illegals can stay and 1/2 have to go. That's a 50-50 compromise. Right down the middle fair. What scale are we going to use to determine which half stays and which half goes? I could go a step further and say...ok, anyone married to an American citizen can stay. Now where do we go? Anyone here over 10 years can stay. That's splitting the time equally from last amnesty till now. How can someone prove that and have it not be a way that someone that just crossed the border couldn't forge in a couple days? Only gainfully employed illegals? I mean that is supposidly all they are needed for ,so only the working? We don't have a shortage of people, just cheap labor. Well, that's not gonna sit well coz there's too many working under the table or too many with kids or the one that just got laid off yesterday. OK....anyone without any crimes beyond just being here illegally. With multiple identies and no other proof, children, and we have Elvira's all over the place. For every "compromise" there's a reason or a group demanding why they deserve special consideration. I don't care if we all said welcome you can all stay but you HAVE to learn and speak English and stop this bi-lingual must speak Spanish crap.
They'd fight that. If we said OK but not one more......there's a kid or a wife or a family just waiting and we can't stop them!!! I mean we just let them flock over the border for 20 years and they always have so how could you do that now? I mean where's the line? The line was and should be the law. What's going to be the law for those in other countries who are just wanting a better life? The kids in Africa or the poor in India and Korea are less deserving than the Mexicans, simply because the border is easier to cross? What do we do about the radical groups who aren't really interested in being American citizens....but overthrowing the government and killing the "whites" or the Christians? That's national security, not simple immigration. It's too complex for an easy answer and shouldn't be rushed into without really careful thought.

The positive solution is now and has always been to enforce the law.
Enforce employer sanctions. Enforce the aiding and abetting laws. Cut off all federal funds to sanctuary cities. Jail the mayors and city councils of sanctuary cities.
Interpret the 14th amendment the way its authors intended. IE someone is not a automatic citizen by accident of birth...eliminates "anchor" babies.
Cut off all social services to illegals. Require proof of citizenship before you can receive any social service...including education. Yes illegals do get benefits contrary to what the pro illegals say. Why do you think the Senates comprehensive amnesty plan contains provisions for forgiving fraud against the social security system?
It does absolutely no good for the idiots in the Senate to debate their comprehensive plan when the American people know that the ONLY thing that will happen is amnesty for all. The so called penalties will not be enforced as they are not enforced now.
The US should bill the Latin countries for the costs borne by US taxpayers for illegal immigration. The US, by not enforcing its immigration policies, is forcing the american taxpayer to support the latin aristocracy. If they were not allowed to "export" THEIR problems to the US, they would have to deal with it themselves.
Most importantly, start using common sense. Cross the street illegally and you will be fined. If you don't pay the fine you will be jailed. Cross the border illegally and the US government will reward you with free medical, food stamps, educate your children and give them free breakfast and lunch...does that make any sense?

My opinion is, immigration does have solutions, and positive ones such as the ones that the new mexican president is pushing for, namely domestic reforms aimed at actually doing something for their own people. He's decided to turn back 10% of his pay, asked other public officials to do the same, he wants to start building schools and other things, trying to make the country more livable and give people a better opportunity to make something of their lives without having to trek to another country to do it. Getting more and more countries involved in doing things that'll benefit their own citizens is the right answer to this, along with probably global accords on immigration in general.
I think that putting more facts on the table will render your positive solution more attainable. That takes research, but it's not impossible, but with more facts known, and more and more people involving themselves in the debate and all relevant aspects of it, discussions of issues like immigration law and the law in general, a better understanding will be reached of exactly what immigration means and where this whole megatrend could end up taking us. Immigration's a BIG issue, a global issue, more and more countries are being affected by it, and there's a big dispute as to whether it's been positive or negative, mixed outcomes in some cases, domestic development seems to be the answer to providing people's needs, but global population growth is definitely a factor in all of this that needs to be looked at.
Again, achieving your positive solutions will require tabling all known facts, reviewing them, and discovering how to help countries better manage their growth etc.

If you are speaking in terms of illegal aliens then the only positive solution is for them to return to their home country's.There they can change their country from within ,to a livable place for all people, not just the wealthy.Amnesty is not a solution as it only adds to the illegal problem, the influx of more illegal aliens.Unless the borders are sealed we will have more illegals after the amnesty than we had that were given amnesty,The last amnesty proved that It didn't work.
Legal immigration is alive and well and seems to be doing fine
.http://projectusa.org/arguments/printer_arguments.html
The governments estimate for deportation has been set at around $ 230 billion, that money could be saved and paid back in less than 5 years by the saving on the money city's,states and our federal government spends on the illegal aliens.

Immigration has been the life blood of this country and should continue to be. The US has always be hostile to immigration, from the Irish to the Germans and now hispanic. We need to allow more in legally so the need for illegals are reduced. By the way, Mexico isn't the only illegal source.

I'm sure that any number of suggestions that have been put on the table, already, would help move us toward a good solution. That said, however, it seems fairly apparent, that there are many people who simply do not want any disruption of the status quo; for whatever their individual reasons may be. These people will likely scream, howl, call people "racist", and generally be ugly no matter what kinds of productive suggestions are put forth. With that in mind, we must move forward, fully prepared to ignore their infantile clamor.
To solve the problem of illegal immigration, we must first acknowledge that there can be immigration that is illegal. This is simply a matter of accepting the validity of currently emplaced immigration laws instituted within the borders of established, sovereign nations. It never fails to amaze me just how many people can hear what the law actually says is "illegal" and then say, "Well, yeah, but...[insert lame rationalization for illegal behavior here]."
Bear in mind, also, that challenges to the validity of a given nation's legal authority to be where it is, to occupy the land that it does; all of these kinds of challenges, while they make for an interesting philosophical discussion, do absolutely NOTHING to address the issue.
For simplicity, let us begin with a foundational acceptance of the following:
1. Part of the elemental composition of a sovereign nation, is a border that defines where it stops and its neighbors start. Without such a border, there can be no reasonable manner of ascertaining what area of land is bound by the laws of that nation. So, a border, more than a physical thing, is a LEGAL construct that tells the inhabitants of the world, "Here is where you cross into land that is goverened by the laws of this nation."
2. Control of immigration -- defining what constitutes "legal immigration" -- including imposition of requirements for entry into the country, residency, and naturalization -- and whether naturalization is even offered as a possibility -- is the legitimate right of every sovereign nation.
These two points seem to be most central to the issue: having an estabilshed border, and controling who may cross over it.
Illegal immigration is symptomatic of several things, including pvoerty and limited opportunity in neighboring countries, but it cannot be ignored that it is also a telltale flagging problems with domestic policies relating to how we control who can cross our border.
First, we cannot ignore that laxity on the part of government in terms of border enforcement has created a mindset that has enticed ever greater numbers of people to simply walk across the border into the country. Those who came before and were not stopped and turned back, have been watched by others now coming, who have seen how easy it has been, and believe that it will be easy for them, too. So the tide grows.
But we are one-winged birds, here, if we do not also examine how our own LEGAL IMMIGRATION policies have exacerbated the issue terribly. Simply put, so many are coming illegally, because coming here legally is an arduous, and expensive pain in the butt. The process -- and it is a Process with a capital "P" -- of legal immigration to the United States is a bureaucrat's wet dream; a lawyer's fantasyland. It is NOT for the faint of heart; you might not LIVE that long. It's a tangle of forms, phone calls, administrative foul-ups, bleeps, and blunders -- and WAITING. Seemingly interminable waiting for your papers to filter through what feels like 497,254,325 layers of mid-level bureaucratic ineptitude before you're informed, "Oh, you filled in this box wrong. You'll have to start over."
If you want less hassle, you have the privilege of hiring an immigration attorney who, for the price of a small tract of land in South Florida, can shepherd your paperwork through the process for you. The advantage, of course, is that you have the benefit of the attorrney's experience in handling the matter so that mistakes are all but nil, and the process moves along as rapidly as the U.S. bureaucracy can go. It's still somewhat less rapid than the rate of advance of the glacier on Mt. McKinley in Alaska, but it IS faster. The probelm with this approach is, of course, that very, very few immigrants -- especially the impoverished for whom a life in America is the most attractive -- have any substantial land in South Florida that they can sell to compensate an immigration attorney. They get the marvelous privilege of attempting this complex process alone; though I am vaguely aware that there are non-profit groups that provide some degree of immigration assistance.
By this point, it should be apparent to all but the least astute among the sons of men, that there is GREAT enticement to simply say, "Screw the paperwork, I'm going in!" And this is precisely what we see happening.
A good solution, therefore, must NOT ONLY address border enforcement issues, but must, AT THE SAME TIME, make the process of LEGAL immigration more simple and streamlined.
I do not know everything that is done in terms of paperwork for legal immigration. I know that there are health examinations, and some kind of background checking; these things seem reasonable. We do NOT want to allow violent criminals (or terrorists) or those with infectious diseases (like tuberculosis) into the country. Regardless of the scope of it, the entire process HAS to be simplified and the time requirements dramatically reduced. This is NOT to say that everyone who makes application for entry WILL get admitted; there will still be criteria that keep people out, and there will likely still be some maximum nuber per year that will be allowed entry. BUT, the process WILL be easier. If you don't get in, you'll know why, and you'll find out in something that can be considered a reasonable amount of time; you apply and within, say, two months you have either a "Yes", or a "No".
In concert with that -- and ONLY in concert with that, for it is crucial that these two measures be taken TOGETHER -- the border, itself, HAS to be made impenetrable. Once LEGAL immigration has been made a simple and straightforward process, there can no longer be ANY excuse allowed for ILLEGAL immigration. Our control over border crossing MUST be ironbound; you DO NOT gain entry unless you do so by LEGAL means. Period. End of discussion.
This two-sided approach is, I believe, the best and most viable way to successfully address illegal immigration. The problem is not one-sided; the solution cannot be one-sided, either.

I will give you some items or facts. Let me know what solution you all come with and I will see if it matches mine.
First illegal aliens are here because they do not have much of a choice. Either you starve or not. The Mexican govt and the very wealthy Mexicans are not taking care of their country and poor. Therefore they are encouraging and sending their poor over here so the USA will take care of them. Most of the wealthy Mexicans are light skin or white. Most of the illegal aliens are brown skin which means they are some type Of Mexican indian. The Mexican Indians are hated by the white Mexicans.Another item is a trade agreement called NAFTA which started about 93 or 94.Which is really when we started seeing more illegal aliens in the USA.
Next our govt is not stopping or controlling the illegal aliens.
This site does not really want or have solutions. Most of the anti-illegals are white people who just want the illegals to go back to their country.Pro-illegals want a humane solution.

watch carlos mencia. personally, i thought he has some great ideas. when you catch them, make them build a huge border between Mexico and the US. then make them build the border between Canada and the US. (lets be fair on both ends) if they served out their jail term, give them the option of getting legal status. or....if they jump the border....send them to a country not their own. like japan....or africa.
