just my luck. im rushing to class and run across an empty street not noticing that there is a no ped crossing sign. (cause i never jaywalked there in my life until now) and i see a cop car pull out of nowhere, i get ticketed!

well i got a few questions for this. usually how much is the fine for my case. and do i have to show up on court? (i have no way of disputing b/c i told the cop my situation and he didnt drop anything)

also. i know that this is not a felony... but do i have to add this citation on job applications that ask about tickets? (this is my main concern)

and i know im stupid for doing this and i have to take resposibility for this too. but again this is my first "ticket" and i wanted to know how to handle it. thanks.

Here is a thorough explanation for you:

Based on the information that you provided in your question, you violated California Vehicle Code Section 21461.5 - Pedestrian Failing To Obey Sign or Signal or California Vehicle Code Section 21955 - Pedestrian Not In Crosswalk. These are all infractions, punishable by a fine only. You do not have to report them on a job application, unless the job application specifically asks if you have ever or within XXX years received a traffic citation.

On a side note, these violations are not considered points against your DMV license status, so not much to worry there.

According to the California Superior Court Uniform Bail Schedule, the minimum bail amount for these violations is $35.00 + penalty assessments imposed by your County. In the County I live in the, the penalty assessments would run up to about $35.00. So, you may be looking to pay as much as a $70.00 fine. There should be a telephone number on your citation for the local Traffic Court, where you can call to get that information.

As far as having to go to court, the violations do not require a mandatory court appearance. You should be getting an invoice in the mail at the address which is written on your citation. The invoice will tell you how to pay for the citation, or how you can contest the citation. If you don't receive anything in the mail withing two weeks of your assigned court date, you need to contact the Traffic Court to find out what happened.

Traffic Courts are so "self-service" these days, that your County may already have a website available for people to pay their traffic fines and check on the status of their citations. You can even take Traffic School online. Try googling "[Your County] Superior Court."

The ticket could be as high as $100.00 depending on what city or county you are in. You do not have to got to court if you are not going to dispute the citation. Just mail your payment to address checked on the bottom of the ticket prior to the date marked in the "court date' box. Your ticket is only an infraction in Ca...not a misdemeanor or a felony. You never have to tell anyone about it, not even a job app. good luck.

The ticket will be at least $100. If you have the time, you can go to court and hope that the cop doesn't show up.

You don't need to report that on any job applications.

Pay it off in the mail!

Trust me on this. If anyone asks if youve been convicted on any crimes lately, while you are interviewing for a job, Tell them, "well I was caught Jay Walking." It is a great Ice Breaker!!!

you're nuts. jaywalking is a very minor offense. You only have to report felonies for job apps.
