I think the only way to help insomnia is to do something to wind down at the end of the day, whatever you do do not take any of those prescriptions they advertise all the time. I think they should all be taken off of the tube.
There is always a reason you cannot sleep it may be medical or stress related. The key is to find out what it is. I have suffered from it most of my life and I have come to the conclusion I just do not like to sleep. I really don't.
I have found that Melatonin is a great help and so is Valerian. I would only resort to a prescription if it was a matter of life or death.
You just have to find out what is right for you. Read over all these suggestions and decide safely what to do if you still have doubts ask your doctor. If he suggest a prescription I would go elsewhere.
Good luck.

Well if you have been diagnosed with Insomnia then there are a number of sleep medications that will help your Dr should have discussed this with you, However if you are just having trouble sleeping and not been diagnosed yet , sometimes you can do a few things yourself that will help. After dinner go for a walk to release some energy, come home take a warm bath , do some reading by a light in your bed, fluff your pillows, one thing that helps me because I myself seem to have an over active mind when I hit the hay is to count backwards in my head (not outload) from 200 . While your mind is doing this its almost impossible to think of other things while doing so , so get comfy pull your covers up and get to counting backwards ;o)) Oh yea if you find yourself stopping on for example 150 and thinking of what your gonna wear tomorrow or something , start over each time. When you count visualize softly the numbers in your head also and count at a normal pace not fast .

How it's treated can depend on the cause of the insomnia.
Some people read or watch TV in bed and have subsequent trouble sleeping. For those, using the bedroom for sleeping only is the key.
Drinking alcoholic or caffeinated beverages before bed and even smoking can cause sleeplessness in some. Avoid this behavior.
Nocturnal pain can interfere with sleep. Deal with the pain.
Tossing and turning, inability to turn off one's thoughts, these can be due to anxiety or depression. Treat these and elminate the problem.
Setting a mood for sleep, winding down before bedtime, a hot shower, aromatherapy, a glass of milk, a turkey sandwich..these are ways by which one can prepare oneself for sleep.
If the insomnia is a transitory condition, a temporary sleep aid may be appropriate. Tylenol PM can be helpful or a stronger med can be prescribed. This is a temporary measure.
If the insomnia is chronic, a comprehensive evaluation may be necessary to determine a cause before treatment can be decided upon.

Hi There,
From my personal experience, I have found that you can get good sleep everyday by doing the following, no matter what the source of Insomnia is. Remember that it will take about 3-4 days for this to be effective, but it works.
1. Every night, go to sleep at the same time. This is extremely important.
2. About an hour before going to bed, make almond milk as follows. Soak a cup of almonds in the morning. In the evening, peel the almonds and grind them to a smooth paste adding some water. An hour before going to bed, warm a cup of milk, add 2 teaspoons of the almond paste, 1/8th spoon cardammom powder, 1 tsp sugar, and a dash of nutmeg (no more than 1/8th of a spoon). Drink this about an hour before going to bed.
3. Do about 5 minutes of deep breathing before going to bed.

Sorry my dear but God cant heal anything. If God could then why would we need doctors and drugs. Why would the pharmaceutical companies be making billions of dollars every year selling sleeping pills and anti-depressants? Maybe you need to see another doctor. Please do not self diagnose and treat yourself. If you have clinical depression, do as your doctors tell you. Perhaps trusting too much in religion is causing your trouble. Leave it be for a while. Go on a vacation. Get away from your current life style.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

You make sure that you go to sleep the same time every night. Make sure your room is dark and cool. Turn the T.V. off. Make sure you have comfortable bedding. Keep a book by your beside and read until you feel yourself getting sleepy. Take a warm bath before bed. Get yourself into a routine of doing certain things every night. Don't eat before you go to bed. I usually try to eat at least 3 hours before going to bed. I use to take pills to help me sleep but those quit working after a while and you can't take pills for the rest of your life to sleep. Getting into a routine and sticking to it every night was the best thing for me.

Acupuncture is great for treating insomnia. Acupressure is also helpful. When I have trouble falling asleep, I rub the point right between the eyebrows. It works every times.
