The only problem is, he is a senior, and I am a sophomore. He is really smart (AP Calculus) and is the only senior of the swim team... I really like him, and he is really sweet. Not the kind the hot girls fawn over, but really quiet and sweet. I know this is wierd, but my secret wish is for him to ask me to his senior prom...at least I would like to start a friendship with him. How do I get started? (we are of different races...?? wierd?? ) I'm not the kind of girl that boys approach...I'm not "girlfriend material"....any help (no silly answers) from both sexes would be amazing! Please help!

I'll tell you a story. I'm getting on in years now and very happily married but...
I had a crush on the lad next door throughout my childhood and early teen years. When I was 16, I moved away but one day he did ask me out. I was overcome with embarrassment and declined. Our paths rarely crossed thereafter, although I remained in touch with his mum. In recent weeks, we have made contact as I have been researching family history. We find we have several things in common - both happily married, some family sorrows, a love of social history and we've both been writing our memoires.

I wouldn't change my life but I do wonder what might have been. My advice to you is to seek the courage to tell him how you feel. Write him a note. What's the worst that can happen? He declines to ask you out. You've lost nothing but may gain a great deal.

Bring up the conversation about the prom, ask him who he's going with, if he is soooo shy maybe he has no plans on attending, then let him know you would like to go with him. Does not get any easier!
