Tenors are almost without exception men.
for women : sopranos have a high voice, altos are lower.
can you sing the melody line ( the top line, usually )when someone is playing a song on a piano without straining your voice? then probably you are a soprano.
listen to a few christmas hymns and sing along. does the melody seem out of range for you? too high? you then are probably an alto.
have a piano? know the notes? if middle c is about the lowest you can sing, then you are probably a soprano.
god bless!

If you're a girl, your choir director will not let you be a tenor, you'll spoil the section. All you have to do is go on the piano and sing along going high and low. If you have a hard time getting below Middle C and you can hit a G above the staff, you're a soprano. If you have a hard time getting above a D on the staff, you're an alto.

if you are a girl, you may still be in the guys' parts if you have an extremely low voice. If not, you are so never going to be either tenor or bass. If you have an average but not high voice, you will be in the alto section, so high voices go to the soprano section, or should. Get a voice placement from your teacher or figure it out using a musical instrument and tunes.

Ask A FEW different voice teachers or other professional musicians. My cousin gets called a soprano by some and second soprano by others.... she is really a soprano, but different choir instructors have put her in different sections.
