Don't believe them when they say "do it yourself" especially the stairs. I don't know where you live, but it was well worth the money to have someone else do it right and with the right tools. I use to work at a carpet store...I know how hard that stuff is to do right. Compare the carpet prices tho...

Take the carpet up and paint the floors. You can get fancy with the painting.

go to a flooring store like home depot or lowes campare shop and do it you self it will be a good family project
