All this European legislation coming in ... do you think we will eventually have to drive on the left? And, if so, how difficult would it be to change round all the road signs, feeder roads and all that. Wouldn't it cost a fortune? Plus all our cars would have to be changed since the drivers would be next to the pavement rather than having a centre view of the road.
What do you think?

Nooooo, I mean we drive on the LEFT and the others drive on the right!! What was I thinking of! I was distracted by Mr. GorgeousFluffpot bringing me a cup of tea and moaning about the EU.

Do you really drive on the right?
Don't you find that other people sound their horns and shout at you?

I very much doubt it. Other countries have changed in the past, but they had lower population density than the UK and much less crowded roads.
I cannot imagine any government would get away with suggesting it as it would cost an enormous amount of taxpayers' money and cause enormous delays while the works were in progress...
...but more so because there would be an outcry over the inevitable increase in accidents during the change process. New signs, toll booths etc could (with great effort) be installed and kept hidden until the day of the change... but you can't repaint all the white lines at once, so for some of the time we would either have to have two sets of lines, or lines designed for people going the other way. Mayhem!
However, the PFI companies standing to get the civil engineering contracts would be all in favour :-)
I've seen a few of your questions today and I think that you are the type of person who would enjoy subscribing to Private Eye, if you don't already.

Have you never heard of the Irish plan to change. The story is that they intend to introduce it in two stages - cars and motorcycles one week, buses and lorries the next. More seriously - why should there be a change to adopt something forced on the rest of Europe by Napoleon Bonaparte when the UK was not conquered by the French despot.

Yes, but they're going to do it in stages: -
Stage 1 is in January, when lorries will move over
Stage 2 begins in February when trucks and caravans move over
Stage 3 begins in March when domestic cars move over
Stage 4 in April all other traffic moves over
The government think there may be a problem with taxi drivers though. They'll still drive wherever they like!

The whole world used to drive on the left and individually they have changed it through time. If you look at most ex-British owned countries they still drive on the left.
Australia, Most of Asia, The Caribbean they all drive on the left.

Well considering the UK has been driving on the Left of years... since Europe has been on the right then I guess not, you still haven't got the euro have you!
Plus don't we already drive on the left?

We wouldn't be the first country to have made the change.
The expense to the infrastructure would be enormous though. Just the cost of turning all the signs around!
