It depends on the laws in your area. This is how it's handled in my area.
First, the inmate must have an established location to go. If the inmate is unable to secure someone to pick them up, a corrections officer takes them. If they live locally, they are dropped off at their house. If they live more than 50 miles away from the prison, the inmate is taken to a bus terminal.

I believe it depends on the prison. From what I have seen, usually someone has to pick them up from the facility, but again, every jail differs. Some might provide transportation to a general spot and then they have to be picked up there. If you are talking about a specific jail, I would contact them and find out their procedures for discharging an inmate.

Depends on a lot of factors, including jurisdiction (state or federal), location, local policies and others. I'd hope there were regulations, because I know some Federal inmates get sentenced to facilities in totally different states, and to think that they are S.O.L (not statute of limitations) once they are out is a horrid thought. Imagine, jailed for years, moved from your home state, say Alabama, to be housed in Colorado, then let out and told to find your own way home? Damn....let freedom ring..LMAO.

I think that someone has to come and pick them up. They may get a ride to the Bus station also.
