First of all, I don't care if I get any points for this, but I have to say there has to be SOME reason why the administrators are trying to expel your little brother. Don't tell me he didn't do anything wrong because if he had not done anything wrong, they would not be after him. If they want him to be expelled, it is for a good reason and if they are any good at their job they will not proceed with the paperwork unless they have a solid case against him. My guess is that he has just done enough wrong to upset them, but not quite enough to get expelled. Maybe they are trying to light some fires to get him upset enough to do something stupid. So... here is my advice:

1. Tell your brother to control his behavior at all times, follow ALL school and class rules, do his best at school every single day. Just keep his nose clean.

2. The parent or legal guardian needs to have a conference with the principal and the superintendent. The feelings that this student is being "messed with" for no good reason should be discussed. Allow the school administrators to fully explain their reasons without any interruption. If a parent interrupts or is disrespectful they will say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" and keep on to expel the student. However, if the parents present themselves as intelligent, caring, and responsible people, the administrators will more likely want to work with the parents. However, be sure that your side is expressed. Be sure you say "you had your time, now I would like to have my time please." Always show respect for the school and it's representatives. School is a lot about respect.

3. If you get no satisfaction at this stage, go directly to the school board with this problem.

4. Don't be afraid to seek other avenues, including the media or some of the other people or groups that have been suggested here.

Finally, I hope you understand that you are fighting a hard battle. Administrators are in that position for a good reason. They have done their time in the classroom as an educator and a student. They are masters of the system and you are most likely completely uneducated about what you are dealing with. They know the rules and policies. So, you should do some research and learn about the rules so you can be prepared to give a defense.

Finally, I have to once again say... he did SOMETHING to get them upset with him. They are people with important jobs and honestly have more to do then just pick on some random kid for no reason. Do you understand what I am saying? If your brother can solve his problems at school, you might avoid a big mess. Be willing to listen and have him accept responsibility for his actions.

Superintendent is where you go next. Good luck. And good for you helping your brother make it through school you are to be commended!! If more parents took an active role in their kids' lives more kids would graduate from HS.

You can go directly to the state board of education. Their number is in the phone book, and they will be able to tell you what you can do.
