One of the British national daily newspapers is asking readers "what it means to be British?"

Some of the emails are hilarious but this is one from a chap in Switzerland....

Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer,

then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way,

to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

.. And the most British thing of all?... Suspicion of anything foreign!

That's what I like about being alive today, we still have a profound sense of patriotism, but we are so much more accepting. The world is getting smaller, we are slowly becoming one world, instead of countries, contenants(Iknow I've spelt that wrong) etc.

It's great. I personally love exploring new cultures etc, and seeing how they blend with mine(British)

Happy days.........

Somebody ripped somebody off. I read the exact same thing about a week ago but it was about what it means to be Scottish. I'm not saying you I mean the chap from the Switzerland.

that is so true! i am british/spanish, and you know what really annoys me? when americans think english people are all proper and snobby and posh. its simply not true, and they only think so because they are slobs, so anything slightly more refined than that is snobby to them! as for the american tv, i think the reason behind it is coz english shows are such c r a p! if they weren't, people might actually watch them!

That is wonderful and if I had read that in a newspaper it would probably have been the first thing that I believed all year. Thanks.
