Hello everyone,, i am new to this board.... Today is my 9th day on lexapro 5mg. My doctor wanted me to start 10mgs after one week, but i asked for another week because i feel that im not ready for 10 yet. I am experiencing side effects pretty bad... although they are getting better, i have some nausea, headaches, feel a little "out of it", and the one that bothers me the most?! INSOMNIA!! I have to take a xanex at nite just to even be able to fall asleep, and i still wake up all night long. I notice that after i take my pill, for a few hours im kinda jittery, then around 5 hours after i take it im kinda zombied out... I guess what my question is is will these side effects, espicially the insomnia go away with time?? around how long? i need sleep in order to work!! and also my other question is, when i up my dose from 5 to 10mgs next week, will the side effects get worse?? Anyone that has any experience with this please give me some advice... ... also is it better to take it in the mornin or at night?? Thanks everyone...
Amanda

give your body time to adjust to it. 5 mg probably wont have any effect on your depression or anxiety. it takes awhile. give it time. if you are concerned talk to your psyciatrist about and ask if you can switch. even if you up the dose the side effects might not get worse. it might be something to think about because if you go up to 10 you can always go back down. good luck!

I was prescribed Lexapro last year and was on it for about 3 1/2 months until the side effects just became unbearable for me to handle. I, like you, wasn't sleeping at all. I think in a week I would get probably a total of 5 hours. I went to my doctor to complain and everytime they would tell me that I just needed to give it time and the side effects would die down. I gave it 12 full weeks of a trial period until I couldn't take it anymore and I just took myself off of it. (which is not good at all because you go through horrible withdrawls) but minus the w/d's I did GREAT....never had felt better. But inevitably depression follows you wherever you go. So I had to get back on anti-depressants. A different doctor put me on Celexa (I had no idea it was "related" to Lexapro) and aparently my doctor didnt care. SAME EXACT CRAPPY SIDE EFFECTS. So after like a week of NO SLEEP and vomiting like a man woman I went to the ER. They took me off Celexa...and now I am on Wellbutrin and it seems to be working pretty well. It kinda makes me tired though! But if you're having a problem with your meds DONT wait as long as I did. Because it just makes it that harder to get off them. GOOD LUCK!

I'm on Celexa which has milder side effects then Lexapro. Also, its a lot cheaper because Celexa has a generic brand that I only pay $5 for. Ask your Dr about celexa.

The side effects that I had from Celexa were drownsiness, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. which lasted about a week or 2.

I still don't have my full appetite back which is good because it helps me with my weight. I also had lost some weight from it. I been on celexa for over a year now.

You need to try a different anti-depressant. If this one is doing all of this to you, there are plenty of others that you could switch to. Celexa is the grandaddy of Lexapro, so I wouldn't ask for that. You might try Wellbutrin, Effexor, or a first generation SSRI like Prozac. If your doctor isn't willing to work with you on this, FIND A DIFFERENT ONE.

Good luck!

i took lexapro and i don't remember any of this happening to me, but it did make my pupils HUGE so i had to wear sunglasses like ALL the time, even inside. but then again, it wasn't working on my depression either so i had to switch to a new one. but i did take it in the morning since the doctor said it could keep me awake. which also didn't work, i was still conking out in first period.

I suggest you write down all of your concerns on a notepad and ask your doctor about all of your concerns and if he doesn't to your satisfaction go to another doctor.
Plus i also suggest that you purchase a PDR at your local bookstore they cost about $90.00 but well worth the cost.
Good luck.
