How about an exercise video? Or maybe your parents would approve of Tai Chi, Yoga or Pilate classes (or videos)? Nothing wrong with getting in shape!

I'm sorry your parents make fun of you for this. I would bet that they actually don't know how bad it makes you feel, or they'd probably let up on you.
What others have answered is correct. Loosing weight is really just a question of eating less calories (eat healthier) and burning more calories (exercise). Just keep your portion sizes reasonable, and never eat until you are so full it feels like you are gonna 'bust.' It can be hard for kids to watch their diets if their parents don't eat healthy, so if unhealthy eating is a problem for your family, you could try talking to someone in your family who you trust to help you address this.
Then, try some crunches. If you have a bike, try to spend a half an hour 3 days a week riding it. Most of all, don't worry, you are young, and if you start eating healthy now, you're much less likely to have weight problems as an adult.

At 12 you still have baby fat.. In a year or 2 you'll automatically lose some of it. In the mean time, try to make healther choices while eating. Don't eat candy or sugary things often, limit them to one time a week. Don't eat fast food more than once or maximum 2 times a month, it's terrible for weight gain, trust me. Use whole wheat or whole grain breads instead of white. Don't eat sugary cereals or oatmeals also, they have a TON of sugar. You basically want to stay away from sugar as much as you can, and white starches like white bread and white pasta (try wheat pasta instead). Take what you usually eat and cut it down a little. Let's say if you eat a bowl of regular pasta with cream sauce for dinner, eat half a bowl with tomatoe sauce (because cream sauces have a ton of fat), and mix in veggies that you look, either lightly cooked/steamed or raw. Just make healther choices day by day, and don't "diet," as that just doesn't work. Everything in moderation is a really good rule. Too much of anything is a bad thing. Also, you can exercise more, but you don't have to actually EXERCISE. You can do fun things like ride a bike, go for walks outside or in the park, dance around, play with younger siblings or cousins, etc. Those are all exercise too. If you want to do a fun, not difficult workout dvd/video, try Leslie Sansone's indoor walking dvds.. the 1 mile, 2 mile, 3 mile, etc. You can rent them from some video stores, or buy them cheaper online if your parents let (like from amazon.com). Don't let other people tell you how you should feel about yourself. People sometimes SUCK and are just plain morons. Why should a couple of morons ruin your day? They are, after all, morons. :o) Just be whoever you want to be, and have confidence in yourself, and everything will fall into place. Remember that it's not going to take a week or 2, it those small changes that you choose to make on an everyday basis that will eventually really pay off. Good luck, and just have fun! :o)

"Weight loss stuff" isn't necessary at any age. And I agree with you 100% that you are not too young to worry about your fitness. In fact, I want to compliment you for being concerned about your fitness. Although, I don't think you should specifically worry too much about your weight because you don't want to stunt your growth. The best way to maximize your fitness is to cut out as much junk from your diet as possible. Starting with candy, soda and ice cream, then try to avoid cakes, pies, pastries, pudding, etc., next every kind of fried food and low quality meat. Also you should try to eat whole fruit and vegetables instead of drinking fruit and vegetable juices.
Once you've cleaned up your diet you want to be as active as possible by playing every sport that interest you. If you have any time left over, a very good workout for you would be to skip rope. If you were able to skip rope for about one half hour three or four times a week, and keep doing it throughout your teenage years, you will have a terrific foundation for life long fitness.

Well, this is normal for a 12 yr old.
U can start getting in shape though. Do some side stretches every other day and some sit ups every other day. Make it a routine thing and u will tone up fast.
Try not to eat much at night time.

I am so sorry your family won't be supportive of you in this. I'm also rather surprised by the people who think that a 12-y-old wouldn't need to lose weight w/the obesity epidemic in this country.
Weight loss comes from taking in fewer calories so you can burn off fat, which is about 3,500 per pound of fat. So, be sure to eat healthy foods that give you vitamins as well as fewer calories. Cardio (running, jump rope, walking, etc) is what burns off the most extra calories stored in your body as fat, and muscles help burn fat while your body's at rest, which is why people want to build muscle too. Crunches & ab exercises don't burn very many calories, they just help build muscle, so you can't use them to get rid of fat. Weight loss coming off is like an onion-- layers come off your entire body.

Well you can start to work out on your own and cut down on what you eat and how much sugar you take in. You can join a sport which will give you some of the excercise that is needed to loose the weight. Good luck to you and hope you loose the weight. smiles

You can't go to the gym; but you can do things at home, like jogging/running, skip rope, sit-ups, etc. Watch the foods that you eat and stay away from fats and sugar (fast food is very bad, as is ice cream, candy, cookies, etc.). Drink lots of water.
At your age, your metabolic rate should be high and that is a factor that is a benefit for losing weight.
Good luck!

Honey, you don't NEED "weight loss stuff." All you need to do is a few simple exercises like crunches or sit-ups to tone that "jelly belly" up a bit. Try to eat healthier foods, too, like juices instead of sodas, and more fresh fuits and vegetables.

Walking is the best exercise there is. Humans were made to walk upright as a means of getting from here to there; I am sure your school has a track, right? You should be able to walk a mile a day w/o comment from anyone...get a game that requires you jump around or dance.
