I'm expecting to become a first time father in March 2007. I'm employed, making $25-30K/yr. and she collects SSI disability, has 2 children with deadbeat donors. I intend to be a father, not a donor.

It depends on where you live...they usually base it on how much money the father makes. But you could step up and have partial custody of the child and then come to a reasonable agreement with the mother on your own. That is you have him a certain time you will pay for everything and when she has him she pays for everything. Better yet...get full custody from her and raise him yourself. Sounds like a quality woman with 2 other kids with different dads.

I dont know about Minnesota, but if the mother is on SSI the child should be receiving a check also. Question: does she already get child support for the other two kids...if so her income is considerably high...and they might not take as much.

The court will decide based on your income, and the need of the child. It varies in every situation and every case.

Iam proud of you for shouldering your side of the weight, and realizing how much your child needs you, not just your money.

Money will come and go, and provide for his care, but a father will give him the love and growth he needs to be a great human being. That lasts a life time.

You make me happy. The world does have decent men in it still.

It depends on how much she is getting and what you are making. They go off that. I am glad that you decided not to be a donor but a father.
