Yes, without the weapon systems and as long as you don't fly them. Now, is it legal for a billionare to buy M-16s or ICMs? No. Got the idea?

There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's Master Card. :)

Yes it is legal. I know a guy that owns and operates an Aero L-39 Albatros. He flies the thing at least once a month. But he has to get special permission from the FAA. I am not sure how he got it though. Is it possible to buy a fighter jet straight from the maufacturer (Boeing,or Lockheed Martin) or do you have to get it from an outside source?

There's all sorts of warbirds being flown all over the world by all sorts of people. They are all demilitarized, but they fly just fine. I've seen a Mig 15 and an F86 Saber recently, there's a Mig 21 and an F4 at RAF Duxford, there's a guy in South Africa flying an English Electric Lightning T4. Those are just the first ones that come to mind. I know there's a private Mig 21 somewhere like Oregon too.

You don't need to be a billionair, but you need a few million to operate one.

Typically you cannot buy a fighter jet, as they aren't really for sale, though maybe some older Soviet fighters are on the market somewhere. But you could buy all the parts and put it together with an experimental tag. I know someone who is doing that with an F4

Yes. There are quite a few privately-owned fighter jets. In fact, that guy from Star Trek that played Warf, Michael Dorn, has or had an F86. Sadly, they take the weapons out.

Yes. Even people without billions of dollars can buy fighter jets. The jets must have their armaments disabled, and if they will be flown in the US, they must gain permission from the FAA to be flown, since they don't conform to civilian aircraft flight characteristics. One can even purchase jets like those flown by the US Air Force, though I believe those are bought from foreign governments, not the USAF (see Thornton Aircraft's webpage at http://www.thorntonaircraft.com/body/body.cfm?page_name=mil for examples of F-5's and T-38's for sale).

Any one with enough money can buy a fighter jet. However, you can't buy a US fighter jet, the government won't sell them, and won't allow private sales to individuals by other countries who have purchased them..
You can buy foreign made fighters if the governments of those countries allow it.
One more thing, if it is not demilitarized(all weapons removed) it cannot be imported.

Anybody with the cash can buy fighter jets... but they are older ones. Look up "Migs for sale", etc., and be prepared to be a little bit amazed!

You can't buy current technology. You can buy older MIGs which is a Russian Fighter.

The L-39 is not a fighter it's a trainer.

I watched a software many years in the past which said privately owned jet warring parties interior the U. S.. They interviewed a private US citizen that owned and flew his own F86 Sabre so convinced, it truly is legal.
