I am trying to decide whether it is more expensive to drive or get the train and how long each journey will take

£11.80 and yakes an hour and a half.

You do of course have a frequent through train - did you appreciate that? Just get on at Wimbledon and get off at Luton ('First Capital Connect' service). Do you REALLY want to drive in London traffic? It'll take forever and leave you a nervous wreck.
Go to www.nationalrail.co.uk for times, then having found the times you can check the fare.

Well, you would have to go into central London and transfer onto the Thameslink (Brighton-Bedford line). From King's Cross this takes approx 40 mins, if that's any help.

I use www.thetrainline.com to work out journey times and fares.
