Why does my tv set screen turn white when I turn if off?

This has been going on for years. The set will not shut off a lot of the time and I just get a white screen when I power it off.
The only way to turn it off then is to shut the power strip off that the set is pluged into.

This is on a CRT 27 inch set. Just wanted to know if the problem will get worse over time.

please mention the brand name of the unit.every brand has its own "serial" when it comes to malfunctions. basic trouble comes from the on/off swicth.when it is a push/pull sw.,it useally have an ac/dc sw. terminal. (",)
