How do I light a glass wall?

Question

I assume that LED lights would be the best, but what kind? We have a wall (dry-wall) with a large section of it being translucent glass. We would like to make the wall light up from the bottom. How?

LED strip lighting would be easiest, Spectrum lighting do a nice waterproof strip available in 30cm increments which clip together, in blue, green, red, warm white and snow white. It comes with double sided tape on the back- Osram do a similar product.

However, 12v halogen uplights recessed into the floor would be more effective because you'll get a brighter, more directional light. With halogen you can control the beam angle (by buying different degree globes) which allows for various V effects. You can also buy inexpensive colored globes for seasonal or decorative whims.
If heat is an issue, you can buy LED replacements for your uplights, while the beam control isn't as good, it will be much brighter than an LED strip. Once again Spectrum do a great product- is an LED MR16 globe (fits into a standard halogen up or down light) it comes with a remote control so you can change the globe color- (a nice variety from teal green to gold, light pink and blood purple) and effects like strobe, flash and fade.

Pretty much any translucent glass will light up with just about any light, but you don't want to use incandescent or halogen lights - they just burn too hot and the light source will be visible.

You could use a short section of rope lighting at the bottom and the whole wall should light up.

If the glass starts at eye level when seated, build a mantle shelf (like over a fireplace) with crown molding, any size you like. Instead of making the "shelf" part from wood, use glass. Install rope lighting whatever color you like)toward the bottom front of the molding (so it will be hidden from sight). Not only will the shelf light up, but so will the glass. Wish I could draw you a picture...they're beautiful. It also allows you to display objects on the shelf which draws the eye to the glass, too.

I have seen this recently. You use a glass drill bit and drill a hole in the bottom this will allow you to insert a small bulb. You will be able to take the fixture out and change lighting colors.

You can buy small pinnacle lights from Ace Hardware or any hardware store that can be installed easily by even the most inexperienced do it yourselfer.

maybe you could try what is call up-lights, they are very inexpentive can be found in wal-mart, kmart, target stores
