Black Cats
There are many superstitions associated with cats, partly because the cat has lived alongside humans for many millennia. The cat was worshipped in Egypt and to kill one was considered a capital crime. When an Egyptian family's cat died, the cat was mummified and the family went into mourning. Romans, also, considered the cat sacred and introduced it into Europe. By the 17th Century, however, the cat began to be associated with witchcraft and it's luck turned from good to bad in many areas. A practice that became popular for a time was to burn cats and other animals on Shrove Tuesday (before the start of Lent), in order to protect one's home from fire and other calamities.

Superstitions centering around the black cat are some of the most well-known and popular superstitions today. It is interesting, though, because the good or bad luck they possess is dependent on where you live in the world. In Britain and Japan, having a black cat cross your path, is considered good luck, whereas if you live in the USA or several European countries, it is bad luck to have a black cat walk by.

Good luck associated with black cats include:

Possessing a black cat.
Having a black cat greet you at a door.
Having a black cat enter your home.
Meeting three black cats in succession.
Touching a black cat.
Bad luck associated with black cats include:

Meeting a black cat early in the morning.
Having a black cat turn its back on you.
Scaring or driving away a black cat from your property.
Walking under a ladder after a black cat has walked underneath it.

I don't, I have an all black female cat now and I am probably going to adopt an all black male cat in the near future. In some cultures black cats are seen as unlucky and in other cultures they are seen as lucky. Through past experience I do have to say that I have had more trouble adopting out a black kitten over lets say a gray or a tabby.

I think a lot of people are getting out of that black cats are unlucky thing. Before they said black cats were unlucky they said that the devil lived inside white cats, until the color white was associated with purity, then it was changed to black cats. But I think all of that is just a myth anyway and people are getting away from that. Cats are just lovable animals no matter what color they are

I heard that in some cultures white cats are bad luck and black are good.

Black is a symbol of warding off negativity, and a symbol of it. It can also mean other things.
I think its just a myth. Thats commign from a cat lover though.

I used to have a black cat, he gave me nothing but love and nothing turned to bad luck.
And theres like 5 black cats that live up the road that always run across the street.

The only thing that brings bad luck is your own natural luck, aka. your own Karma.

Cat lovers unite? lol

Only a few weirdos on halloween. At least in America. I guess there may still be some countries out htere that still believe that.

I myself have a black cat, and he is the sweetest thing you could imagine. He is a perfect gentle man, taking care of any kittens that are in danger. He is 10 now, and I have never had 'bad luck'. He is the best!!!

God Bless!

According to the Book of Superstitions, it is only unlucky when a strange black cat crosses your path.
But the book says that it is good luck to have black cats as a pet in your house.

i have actually heard that there is no such thing as a solid black cat meaning the cat is completely black, some of them have tiger stripes that are a shade light or even slightly lighter than there already dark coat and some of patches of white on their bellies and so on but I have been around and seen tons of cats and have yet to find one that is solid black without any other color in it, but I don't believe in that anyways i think it is just a silly superstition
