caipirinha

1 lime

2 ounces of cachaça or vodka

Sugar to taste

Ice cubes

Wash the lime and roll it on the board to loosen the juices. Cut the lime into pieces and place them in a glass. Sprinkle with the sugar and crush the pieces (pulp side up) with a pestle. (We have a long, wooden one from Brazil, made specifically for this purpose.) Just enough to release the juice, otherwise it'll get bitter. Add the cachaça and stir to mix. Add the ice and stir again. It is delicious and potent!

You can also make a pitcher of caipirinha. Figure out how many people and multiply amounts. If you can't find cachaça where you live, use a good vodka. The drink will then be called caipiroshka. No vodka? Use white rum and you will have a caipiríssima.

Try using a locally-produced apple cider, if possible. Local ingredients make it to the market faster and therefore are fresher. To make things extra festive, serve this cider in mugs rimmed with sugar, or topped with orange twists, whipped cream or nutmeg.

Ingredients:

2 quarts apple cider
2 cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
4 shots apple brandy
Directions:
Heat cider with cloves and cinnamon.

Pour a shot of apple brandy into a mug and fill with cider

1 1/2 oz Malibu® coconut rum
1 1/2 oz peach schnapps
1/2 oz Ceres® guava juice
1/2 oz Looza mango nectar
1 oz pineapple juice
1 splash Ceres® passion-fruit juice

Combine the schnapps and Malibu rum in a highball glass; add in the pineapple juice. Add in the mango nectar and guava juice til the taste is suitable (may want to go light on the guava juice for it's heavy distinctive taste) then top off with a splash of passion fruit juice, and serve.

1 1/2 oz Scotch whisky
1 oz cherry brandy
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
1 oz lemon juice
1 slice lemon

Shake all ingredients (except lemon slice) with ice and strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes. Add the slice of lemon and serve.

Yeah, we have one that we call Naughty Girl Scouts........Premium hot chocolate made with milk and half and half with some 100 proof Peppermint Schnapps in it with a mini candy cane as a swizzle stick and topped with just a spritz of whipped cream (the kind out of the aerosol can)......Delish, and a good hot toddy for cold nights.......
