You may want to consider a doctor of Chiropractic, if he is unable to help, he will know where to send you for the condition. What you describe is a sacro-iliac problem. Usually rapidly responds to treatment.

I would see a doctor of internal medicine (internist) then he probably would send you to an orthopedic doctor, who would then have CAT's and , or MRI's done. If he really thinks, it's a tricky problem he may have the new three dimensional CAT's three hundred, per quarter inch, sliced.
I would almost guess it's a hip problem like a rotor or cuff, most probably early stages of arthritis and the socket is getting calcium in it and is looking at a good cleaning down the line. That's all that easy living.

Save you some time- I have pain in the back of my hip , I went to the family doc first , they sent me to the Orthopedic, He told me to get Massage Therapy!- Great if you can afford it! It does work and I have gone , but you need to go more than just a few times for it to really be effective. If you go to a Therapist- find someone who does Neuromuscular Therapy- specialized training.Good Luck!

You would first visit your primary care provider. If your primary deems it necessary he/she will then refer you to a specialist. What kind of specialist depends on what your primary feels may be the cause of the pain.

Just your family Dr should do. If they see something that they think requires more attention they will refer you to an Orthopedic specialist probably.

I had pain in the same area and was referred to a physiotherapist and chiropractor by my doctor. They will have to assess you before they decide what doctor/treatments to use.
Feel better soon

Your family Dr. would be the best place to start...if he feels you need to see a specialist, he'll refer you to one.
