Ive been wearing contacts since I am 14. However, the reason why contacts are not really advisable for people that age is because they may not clean them properly or wear them for too long, therefore risking damage to the eye.
You also have to remember to take off your contacts and wear glasses for about 4 hours a day to let the eye breathe.
I would say you get Acuvue Dailies if you can or some kind of daily disposable contacts until you get used to them. They are lighter and easier to handle though a little more expensive.
I even think that wearing contacts after I was 14 helped my eye sight cause I wouldnt really wear my glasses and my prescription went down miserably because I would force my eyes to see so wearing contacts really helped in that.
Good luck!

With supervision children as young as 8 can be prescribed contacts so obviously age 12 would be fine.

I got contacts when I was eleven, so I am going to say that it is perfectly alright because nothing went wrong when I did it. You just have to make sure you learn how to insert them correctly or it will not be very fun.

yes it's alright but don't wear contacts that you get from your friends and definitely don't share your contacts because you can get an eye infection and also don't wear them when you go to sleep.

Yes, if your optometrist has said it is okay and has done the fitting for you. Your eyes have to be mature enough and just like with everything else everyone matures at a different age.

Yeah it is fine, but make sure that the contacts are well taken care of, because you only have one set of eyes.

Yes. Contact lenses can have some complications that could be prevented (eg: removal overnight). Ask your doctor.
