As ever, the best two catches in a lifetime are:
1) The very first one
2) The next one.

I can not say I have only 1 best catch, it comes down to 2 different species and almost 10 years apart. the most recent was a 36 inch king salmon out of the Kenai River and the other is an 11 pound Rainbow trout caught on 4 lb test at Clear Air Force Base, both in Alaska.
Beyond those catches it all goes to saltwater. My most memorable moment while fishing was this summer while fishing near the shipchannel at South Padre Island, I had 2 stingrays that were 5 - 6 foot across swim right under my kayak.

Well being a true Saskatchewanian at heart Nortern Pike have been my favorite for a long time. But this past summer I got 3 small mouth bass for the first time and for their size they sure can fight!! Its been a long time since I've seen my rod do some actual bending (Its an old stiff one). Although fun to catch I still prefer to eat my Northern Pike or burbot.

My best catch was a 7.8lb smallmouth from Dale Hollow. I caught it on a float-n-fly using 6lb line and a 9ft rod.The water temp was 53 and the windchill was in the teens and after a numbing 6mile run to our fishing spot in a Skeeter ZX225 that fish definatly heated things up.I've caught much larger fish but nothing is more exciting as hanging into a big smallie

In a lake in a RV park in Rhode Island, i caught a 13 in large mouth bass on a skinny little pier. Put up a really good fight, and when i pulled it up, it flopped off the hook, and bounced back in to the water. darnit. lol

Well king salmon on lake michigan are always great, but nothing beats a 20lb steelhead flying high out of the water.

I wouldn't call it a best catch but it certainly qualifies as my strangest. I once caught a foot long mudpuppy, also called a water dog for some of you.
