I'm just afraid he'll get the wrong impression, that's all...

Sure it's proper- as long as it's nothing too relatinshippy, like scented candles or massage oil or anything like that. how about a nice gag gift? My best friend Steve is always joking about how he wants footie PJ's with a drop-down seat, so I've actually found him jammies like that in men's sizes and I plan to give those to him. So just fancy yourself "one of the guys" and buy him something that you think a guy friend would buy him, like a keychain that makes fart sounds or a Star Wars light saber, or whatever he happens to be interested in, and make sure you write From: Your Friend ______ on the card so he can make no mistake about the fact that you just think of him as a friend.

Have you given this person gifts before? If so, then there is a precedent. He probably won't think much of it. He may think you are a nice guy and you are giving him a gift.

Has this person done some things for you during the year and you want to thank him? I think that would be nice. You could also tell him that when you give him the gift. 'Jim, I really appreciate all the help you have given me this year. I want to show my appreciation with this gift. Happy Holidays.'

My husband has male friends to whom he gives presents. One firend gets a nice bottle of wine. The other gets computer games.

I don't know if what I said helps your situation.

If you don't feel comfortable about it, then don't give a gift. Save yourself some grief and worry.

Sure, it's fine to give a gift to a friend, nothing wrong with that at all. It depends on what you give him. How personal is the gift? A personal or intimate gift could send a confusing message, but a gift should not send a message other than "you are a friend, i wanted to give you a gift on the holiday season".

Yeah, if you get him something benign like a CD or a gift card. Usually clothing gifts are considered a bit personal, sort of reserved for family members or spouses---unless this guy friend is 4 months old and you're buying him a onesie.

just give him a really crappy gift, then if he thinks it's because you like him, your obvious bad taste will turn him off. that way you can remain uninterested and not leave him off your christmas list. remember to wrap it poorly and leave the price tag on so he knows how little you spent. if this doesn't work try and get him interested in guys. good luck and merry christmas...

I would say it would be fine as long as it's a gift that would not give that impression

I gave all my guy friends christmas presents. and they never thought anything different about it. Your friend shouldn't think anything different. He should just take it as a friendly gesture. And when my guy friends got me stuff...i didn't take it as them liking me more than a friend.

Of course it's okay. He's your friend and you want to share the holiday spirit with him, I don't see anything wrong with that. I think your friend will actually be very thankful.

What does being straight or gay have to do with this? If he is your friend by all means buy him a gift if you want.
