Good question.

When you say "all-powerful" I take it to mean that a being with such a quality can do all things. However, from a thiestic scholorly standpoint, this is not the type of omniscience that is attributed to God. Yes, the Bible states that "With God all things are possible" however, this has been classically interpreted to mean that God has the power to do all things possible.

Therein lies a difference. Although there may not seem like a big difference between having the ability to do all things and the ability to do all things possible, there actually is.

A being (like God) who can do all things possible is defined as not having the ability to do the impossible. Like, create a rock that is both big and small at the same time.

So now lets visit your question. Sinse God is defined as an immortal being and it is an impossible task to kill and immortal, God (Because he cannot perform the impossible) should not be able to kill himself.

Hope that helps

God would never commit suicide. He is not of this world anyway. There is no BODY to kill. He is ETERNAL. Do you mean if he has the power to destroy himself? Why would a God (king) commit suicide? He is against death. That is the reason He sent his only begoten son so that all that beleives in Him does not die but have everlasting life. JOHN 3:16 . He wants us ALL to be eternal and not die. Suicide is out of the question.

Since all Gods and Goddesses are immortal - whether we're talking about Llyr, Rhiannon or the Christian God - I don't think so. Also, the Goddesses and Gods aren't subject to the same laws as humans, and since death is an Earthly experience, I don't know how a Goddess/God could die. After all, they're spiritual beings and spirit can't die.

I hope you don't get a ton of thumbs downs for this question, though I'm sure you will.

Bright blessings!

What do you mean by "all powerful"?

If you mean that he has unlimited power, then you have been listening to some Bubba Preachers who want to awe and scare their membership.

But reality soon tests the validity of such unsubstantiated claims that God is "all powerful". For example:

if God is love, if God is all powerful, why did God allow that tornado to destroy those mobile homes and kill those innocent children?

Some of these Bubba preachers, explain it by blaming it on the victims. (innocent or not)

Well, God is certainly powerful, and loving. But, he took a heck of a chance to come to this dangerous planet to find harmony loving people (neighbors) for the people on his planet.

God is all powerful in comparison to our powers. He should be, his planet had a 9 billion year head start on our planet. So evolutionarily and technologically God is very very powerful. But, except for specific storms, he cannot control storms. Why? He would have to call on his planet's technology for each storm he wanted to control. And, there are a lot of storms. So instead of playing games with storms, he simply has given us a chance for eternal life on his safe planet, after our stay here on Earth.

I have written a book about it. "God's Ancestors". LuLu.com $12, or e-mail me for a free copy.

Oh yeah? Suicide? Well, God and his planet have reached the stage of evolution that includes eternal life, as well as reconstruction in the event of an accident.

So, if God committed suicide, not that he would, he could simply be reconstructed, with all his thought proccess "born again".

Technology and evolution can be wonderful.

PS: Whoops, one of your responders has mixed up "omnicience" with "omnipotent" neither of which is in the Bible.
And, he seems to forget that what is impossible for some people is indeed possible for others. (I can think of about a million examples of that)

Your dog thinks that you are "all powerful" because you can open a door and he can't.

With that logic, your dog thinks that you are "God". Why? You are able do things in a mysterious way, things that he and the other dogs are not able to do. Like open a can of dog food. How do you open a can of dog food? You simply use the technology of a can opener. You simply use the technology available on your planet.

enough said (for now)

Actually if God is all powerful, and if he is all loving like Christians claim he is,then as I look around the world and what it has become I think he may already have committed suicide.

Yes. However, He doesn't have a physical body to commit the suicide against. But he could indeed create Himself one and then commit suicide. However, He NEVER would, because that is a sin that He's commanded us not to do, and He would never sin because He is perfect, and without sin. Hope that helps you out. ;)

Yes, God can do anything but I can guarantee you that He will never commit suicide or tell someone to commit suicide. The Devil has his hand in that and the person who did it. Besides, God is actually immortal so I don't think He can technically commit suicide.

Of course he does, that and back again, by definition he can do everything, that doesn't means that we would or should do everything.

Yet, you could se thee sacrifice of Christ as a form of suicide, yet it was a sacrifice, the difference may be subtle, but is very important for Christians.

God is not a human , He is eternal.....He does not need to think of such things. This is human nature ans only humen have such emotions like depression , sadness etc which lead a person to think of suicide.
